30th June London show report! (1 Viewer)

The words; Bolted,Horse, after, shut and gate spring to mind mate!

Hi all, i did finally make the show after after navigating the floods, and brought the sunny weather with me:)After 5years without attending a London Show i was most impressed with the set up,and the use of the 2 seperate halls, plenty of room to move ,no more running up and down stairs like in the past.
To regular attendees did the show seem quite,or is it the advantage of having the 2 halls? There seemed to plenty people looking, but not many buying ,listening to soom traders!
One thing i did notice is really how the Matt side of things now dominates the hobby, and the decline in gloss,ie 5years ago Trophy were a major player with what i can remember quite alot of tables, yet on saturday, only one gentlemen selling his personal collection, although Little Legion did have a wonderfull diplay.
I spoke to John jenkins and he signed my purchases, looked at the new Collecters showcase items, liked there ACW cavalry and Afrika Korps items, espically their 88m gun,but there figures sure appear to have been hit with an ugly stick:eek:
The Afrika korps seem worse than the ACW cavalry.
The NMA stuff looks great but im not convinced about the Tigers gun barrel, but thats just my uneducated thoughts. The Honor bound Shermans looked stunning ,but a little out of my price range at £130 ($260).
All in a wonderfull show and 5years is a long time in collecting because i like gloss figures alot but when i looked at my purchases most were Matt:confused:
Its funny how seeing the figures up close can make you suddenly start to want to collect periods of history, you never thought about(18th North American campaigns and Aztecks), up until this saturday, not one of these featured in my collection.
Heres a couple of images, taken at home(try and forget the dodgy wallpaper):
Below are a couple of Azteck warriors from Morgan Minatures,60mm and well worth a look.

Very cool figures! I've never heard of Morgan Miniatures - are they a local UK outfit?

John Jenkins Purchased at the show:
QF-03 French officer "apres vous, messieurs Les Anglais"Rgiment de La Sarre
QF-04 French drummer in Kings Livery Plains of Abraham 1759.
QF-02 French officer with regimental colour Regiment de La Sarre, the 4th picture is a close up of the same figure,QF-03 is even better closeup and the sculpting and pose of the figure oustanding, the pose it self something id not seen before.

I got in at 7.30 and of course there were not many people around.Such a good time to get in,check out the tables and chat to the K&C Guys. After 10am it did look very busy on the K&C Tables, but perhaps the other dealers were a bit less busy, difficult to tell.I'm sure the weather and the Bomb scares may have put some off,but i understand the June show is not as busy as the December show anyway.

In issue 108 of TSMF, in the Kit Korner section the review states that Tradition of London cast the figures and they are available from the Alma Figures shop in Wales. The maker, Gareth P. Morgan's address is:
Morgan Miniatures
60 Warnham Court Road
Carshalton Beeches
Surrey
SM5 3LZ
England
E-mail. Garethandjudy@tiscali.co.uk

Hope this helps.

Stevo

The show numbers through the door were up on Last June which was the best June ever. about 650 in total.
traders were up on March and only two no shows on the day.

car Bombs i know of one trader who did not come because of it but not one customer said they were put off by it.
The weather also did not seam to put anybody off, although i understand people had to plan their journeys better.

We had a lot more international visitors this time........the interveiw on K&C UK TV shows a guy from California and we had a few more americans than normal. We had a very goof French contingent as well as Belgique, german, swiss, Poles. There was also a very large amount of interest from Hotel guests and about 10 US students came in.

Trade was avery brisk and all the main dealers showed increased sales up on last June with that being their best June to date.

December is always the busier show with over a thousand visitors

By the way Stevo you should have come over and said hi as a treefroger!

Hi Tony would have liked to say hello, but you were very busy as usual, and seen as i wasnt in the hunt for King&country,it would have been what i consider bad manners to say hello and slink off without buying, but your charge of the light brigade sorely tempted me!

Stevo

glad you like the charge........it is flying out the door (well charging) at the moment which is great

Tony
