The upcoming releases look great but the prices keep rising, may have to start back with the LAH collection :( How many Germans with MG 34's do we need?? The Flamethrower set is a must but with the price increase I will let some sets go and focus more on unique figures.

Well just remember - a candy bar use to cost 10 cents at one time too.

Prices will continue to rise - thats just the way it is unfortunately.

Yeah Ron, I'm old enough to remember that, as well as a .15 cent (glass) 12 ounce bottle of Coke from the local candy store . . . we are getting old!!!:p;):D

Oh Boy if your getting old Louis.......I'm ancient?

I remember when for 25. I could buy a soda fountin cherry coke, a devil dog,

and bring home a .10 comic to read. Since I got .50 a week I could put a

quarter away for a new Dinky toy. Two and a half months later when I was

ready........my dealer would be out of stock:eek:

Next Year I'm Gonna Be 60:eek::eek::eek:

The thing is that detail, accuracy and the coast of per hour on painting and all the other stuff is going up as well too.

just a few years ago a k&c tank could be bought for about $90 now it costs around $150

You are kids unless you can remember the quarter schooner and buck pitcher ( local beer , national beer -Budweiser cost a buck and a quarter)

Well the great thing about king&country is they will post new dispatches a month or so before being released and that gives us time to plan or save up our coins to buy some older stuff or newer stuff, the prices are definitly affecting my purchases so i have to plan a little more carefully....sammy

Absolutely, dispatches are vital for me.It allows me to plan my purchases and also watch whats being retired. This months retirements made for some hard decisions for me.I too am having to plan my puchases a lot more than i used to,very few impulse buys these days.

Morning Folks,
The cost may be rising but given the cost of some many other hobbies it is still one of the best deals around. Living in Boston with the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics (All world champs) it is very hard not to be "avid" sports fan. With the cost of the ticket, eats, beer, parking, gas and more... it can equal a New Tunisian Tiger, the new EA Crusader Tank or a few Mounted Calvary figures PER game. For my $$$ I want something that I can enjoy many times over. Heck you might even go to the game and they might LOSE!!

Absolutely agree with you here Larry. By passing up on the rather dubious "pleasure" of going to see my football team (Aberdeen FC) getting slaughtered yet again by some squad of 2nd division nonenities *, I can buy several K&C SOHK or IC sets. Or another few sets of EoI's Hoplites. A much better deal all round I would say.

*Or even worse, Highland League opposition like Peterhead - who beat Aberdeen FC 4-0 in a pre-season friendly two weeks ago. And this was the same Aberdeen FC that won Two European Trophies in the same season 25 years ago by beating Real Madrid and Hamburg in the respective finals...:mad:
Aye, same team but not the same football players ye understand....:D. (Although the team that are now 25 years older couldn't possibly be worse than their present day successors - who are a disgrace to the jersey's....).

Rant, Rave,
Grumpy Old Heid

Cheers :)

Absolutely! I can watch plenty of my sports teams get creamed(76ers-NBA, Reds-MLB) for free on TV, well almost free, without shelling out 200-400 or more to see them live. Ive never heard the most ardent rivet counter complain as much as a sports fan who just payed to watched his team get hammered:D;).

Well having watched South Africa just thrash us at Cricket (congratulations Damian:))i'm sure glad i didn't pay to witness it!

The cost of living has gone insane everywhere since 9-11. War and instability in the middle east drives up oil prices, which in turn drives up the prices of everything, as everything relates to oil in one way or another - be it via plastics, lubricants, transportation, heating or other energy sources, it all tracks back to petroleum. Heck, even the price of asphalt to fix potholes or repave a road has quadroupled.

All our hobby prices are going to get jacked up, and I don't expect that they will go back down anytime soon. For me, the only answer is to cut back and buy only those items I really want. I used to buy every K&C WWII item except the LAH stuff. Then I cut back to all vehicles and warbirds, and those figures I really wanted. Now it is only those vehicles, warbirds and figures I really want. I am still spending as much money, but only getting about half as much product.

I am also a big Giants (NFL) and Yankees (MLB) fan, and I used to go to at least a couple of Giants and at least a half dozen Yankees games every year. This year, I will probably go to 1 Giants and I know I am going to only 2 Yankees games, and I will probably spend about the same amount.

And don't get me wrong, I feel very lucky that I can still participate in my hobbies, albeit on a more limited basis. I get the feeling that there are a lot of people, particularly those on a fixed income, who are absolutely getting wiped out by this worldwide recession. I mean taxes are going up, prices of virtually all necessities are going up, and incomes are just not keeping pace. This could get very ugly very soon.

After I saw Larry's email, I looked at the Yankees pricing and the most expensive seats are $400 per, all the way on down. Field boxes are $95. I'm sure they will be more in the new Stadium.

If that's not bad enough, the Giants who just won the Super Bowl (for our non US members) are building a new stadium (mind you, nothing wrong with the old one). It's extremely hard to get tickets and there is a long wating for season tickets. Some of these season tickets are passed down generation to generation, some people having been season tickets holders for 70 to 80 years since the Giants used to play in Yankee Stadium.

In the new stadium, each ticket holder will have to pay an additional $10,000 per seat, what they're calling a personal seat license. No, I kid you not. This is in addition to what people already pay for their tickets. So, if you have four season tickets, that's an extra $40,000. Ridiculous. Some people who have held these seats since god knows when have to give them up so the fat cats get nice new luxury sky boxes. My company used to have one of these sky boxes but gave them up because of the cost. I went there a few times and it's very boring. There's nothing like being with the crowd.

Excellant post, sadly it sums it up very nicely.

Very good post, the same applies to me as well, buy what you really, really want and you can still enjoy the hobby, IF it gets to 40 bucks a figure I am done no matter what

everyone knows rising costs are a fact of life. makes for hard decisions all around. no live sporting events for me. at $4 a gallon can't even afford to drive to game much less buy ticket or food. i suspect when figures hit $35 each i will curtail almost all collecting and buy only 1 or 2 special issues a year. being on fixed income has already halted all other interests except survival and toy soldiers (same thing?). what does future hold? - lancer
