I have a guy in my church who had a relative in the 35th Foot Royal Sussex Regiment who served in the India Mutiny (1857-1859). He's like to get a figure to represent him.

He came acorss this on the net...but has no idea who made it. Any help would be appreciated. I assume it's a kit?

If he can't get this, he's like something in a slightly later period showing a lance corporal or sergeant.

Thanks for your help!

Is this figure so obscure that nobody can ID it?

Hi Peter,

I believe that the figure shown is actually a Naval Officer. I would say its a kit but just which company it is is not a question I can answer. You may want to ask the Baron to be sure because he has a pretty good grasp of whos who in the kit casting arena.

I'm going to refresh this thread as I didn't get much of a response a month ago.

He found this guy online, assuming that it's a figure that would fit the bill, though there seems to be some question about whether it's actually a 35th RSR.

I believe he would really like a Sgt figure from the 35th in India. Anyone have ideas of where to find one?

Tradition will paint one of their range to represent the 35th. Trooper

Hi Trooper,
Thanks for the response!
He needs it for a shadow box for an August family reunion. Can Tradition work that fast?
Regards,

Does Tradition carry a figure from the Indian Mutiny?--that is what is needed and I don't see one on their website.

During the IM the 35th Royal Sussex became the 3rd Regiment of Bengal European Infantry. Bill Hocker has an IM set of the 1st Bengal European Fusiliers whose uniform may be similar to that worn by the 35th during the IM as the 3rd Bengal European Infantry. (see Hocker set below)

The other possibility would be a figure made by one of the many kit companies

I think that they do have such figures in their range, or at least they used to. I think you are incorrect when you say the 35th became the 3rd Bengal European Infantry. The 35th always formed part of the British line until 1881 when they amalgamated with the 107th Bengal Light infantry to form the Royal Sussex Regiment. The 107th were raised in 1854 as the HEIC 3rd Bengal European Light Infantry, were renamed the 3rd(Bengal Light Infantry) in 1858 and became the 107th Bengal Infantry regiment in 1861. In 1881 they becme the 2nd Btn Royal Sussex. Trooper
