Recently I received this query from a collector :

Several years ago, I purchased the entire special Britians subscription set "The presentation of the colours to the Scots Guard by Queen Victoria."

I have been bringing it out of storage, and have a problem. I cannot find the layout for the 48 piece Scots Guard Band.

He is looking for an image of the band so he can set it up as it was intended to be displayed. I checked with W. Britain for him and this band was available pre-First Gear and they have no photos of it on file.

Can anyone help him out? Some of the item numbers are:
292, 5994, 40106, 40201, 40202, 40203 and more.
Thanks!

Send up the Joplin signal, Commissioner! I suspect that Norman may know, or know where to find it.

Prost!
Brad

Here is a photo that came with the presentation set:

If you need further info please advise.

Here are photos of the various band sets that are included in the presenation -- some of the bands sets require multiple boxes:

00291 - (1).jpg

00295 - Sgt. Major coronet.jpg

5994 - (4).jpg

40106 - (2).jpg

the rest will follow in another reply.

Finally a list of sets and boxes required:

Queen Victoria Presenting the Colours to the Scots Guards – 1899

Instrumental Band (21 boxes from 10 sets) – 49 figures
5992 Band Set (1) (3 Figures - Bass Drum, Side Drum & Oboe)- 1 set

:eek::eek::eek::eek:

That is quite the display and I am sure it looks better in person than on paper.

Thanks for the info Dick.

No problem -- if you need any further information about the other sets that were included in this presentation series, just let me know. Last year, before I purchased the entire series, I did some research on the series, and many forum members and others provided me with helpful information, which I don't mind sharing.

I think you gave me a website in England pertaining to this and then I discovered the Jubilee Series. I may try and get the Royal Barouche and a few mounted figures from this series however.

It was all in the Standard that came out at the time
Regards
Damian

All right, Dick! Great save with the info!

That is a pretty extensive set. Do you have it displayed?

prost!

I think he is waiting for the last hectare of St. James Park to become available so he can set them all up.

:D :D :D :D

When Britains produced this series, they stated that it took 75 boxes to make up the entire presentaion. In order to fill out the ranks and because most collectors sell these sets in lots, when I was done collecting this series, I had a total of 85 boxes. I wound up with 10 extra boxes of Scots guards at present arms.

I did set up the entire display once -- on a 4 x 8 table. it took my several hours each day over the course of 3 days to do. I left it up for 4 weeks, before I reboxed all the sets due to space limitations. My camera was broken at the time, but the next time I set up the display I will take photos and post them.

Just a couple of things I was thinking of.

What was the purpose of this particular ceremony?

Is the ceremony of presenting the State Colours different than the Trooping of the Colours? (I think it is as I seem to remember reading TotC going back a couple of hundred years) and if so is it still performed today?

Thanks

Scott
