54mm Ancients (1 Viewer)

I will have to see whats available for transfers. I knocked out some more cts Romans. Have other chores to do so I wont be adding anymore for a little while.
Thanks for all the kind words . I simply have a method that any of you can learn and do better quality than me. I've simply painted thousands of figs so It seems to go faster.

These are classic toy soldier romans?

Vamp, These are the CTS Romans. I like them, fun to paint.

I found the shield designs on a website for A&A miniatures, a wonderful 28mm metal line of castings .54mm cts romans.jpg

54mm romans.jpg

20 figure unit of Carthaginian Heavy infantry done at last.
I used more of the paper designs to finish them off. Too much fun! I'll need at least x 2 such units, 20 figs minimum for wargames .I'll glue 2 men to a metal stand and terrain them.
I use 10 stand warbands/ battlelines for wargames.
Cavalry will be one fig per stand. Makes the game mechanics easy as all units, no matter, heavy, light, ect are 10 stands. Skrimishers, doesnt matter how they are based as they generally dont count towards the battleline as a whole.
Only formed units count.
Each army has a certain number of units and an army Breakpoint.Usually 10-12 units.
Once a certain number of units { depending on the army , carthaginians is 4} is destroyed or routed from the battleline the army is defeated and flees.

I have a ways to go before I have enough units for both sides! Getting there is 1/2 the fun.

Sorry, Didnt mean to post images twice.
Heres a pic of the guys ready to paint. All cleaned, slight modifactions here and there and primered.
Grab a couple at a time .Now that I have some Romans and Carthaginian Mercs done, I'll probably jump to Gauls, A Spaniard or 2, maybe some cav.

Have a bunch of 1/2 done troops I been carvin on too, but I am enjoying painting too much. It's easier!

Harold those look great! I love the shields. Lots of conversion posibilities with those figures:rolleyes::cool: I think you could come up with a lot of new figures mixing and matching parts.
I think the marx vikings would be easily converted into a few new troopers to go along with these guys. A new head here and there some new weapons and shields???
Now you,ve got me wanting to try a few?
GREAT painting by the way!!!

Fubar,

Yes, very nice shields, I take it from what you say that you have printed colour paper designs and stuck these onto the fronts of the figures shields?

I remember the days when I could paint vast numbers of figures day after day, now I only manage a few figures at a time.

Keep them coming!

Jeff

Im enjoying seing the two armies build up keep going we want to se thousands :p
I cant wait for Vin Diesel's Hannibal the Conqueror might even be out in 2009
the budget is huge so should be good

No need to apologize Fubar the photos look as great the second time around as they did the first......The Lt.

I had heard rumors of a Hannibal film but thats all. I'll try and find it on the web.
I did little painting the last couple days, but did play a little , setting up a tiny confrontation.
Theres 3 East of India Greek Hoplites in there too. A nice little unit of those would be fun as Mercs for Hannibal.EOI matches well with the plastics, not the Conte Spartans though.True 54mm. Since they do fit in well with the Punic era troops I'm working on , I have an excuse to get some more!;)
One nice thing about this period, so many troop types that can fight for or against the main antagonists.battle.jpg

There is a Hannibal the Conqueror (2009) film that has been in pre-production since 2002. It is a Vin Diesel project in which he plans to star and direct. It has had many delays and still has not started filming. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0382731/

Denzel Washington once had a similar project but I think that one has gone no where. Your project is much more reliable.;)

Ready for Battle..... :D

That pic looks cool  with the right angle you would not even notice you had both 25mm & 54mm just gives the impression that the battle is takeing place over a large area..
keep em comming :D

these are all 25/8mm.
Romand Civil war with Imperial Romans vs Republican Romans. Both have Allies, Gauls / Eastern Successors. Somewhere in AFRICA.rcw2.jpg

Fun Sat nite wargame

If i was to place a bet i would put my money on the Imperial Romans.
A little more advanced i would think.... but only a little
:D

Ragnar, You are correct Sir!
I played the Republicans, My opponent, The Imperials. He's not much for attacking. The Rep managed to force the fords on the right and center but it took FAR too long to defeat his forces on the right. They were attacked in front, flank and eventually the rear, yet they refused to be broken .{poor die rolling on my part, always a ONE} His Gauls were TOUGH.
By the time the flank was turned and his left Legion broken, He simply refused the flank with another and My Legions that had forded the center were in a slugging match that went nowhere. On my left, I held the ford the entire game, finally he attacked across the river, was slaughtered but he planted a Legion right in the ford and wouldnt budge.
Missle fire did some damage but overall we just sat there pinning each other.

Lots of fun.Want to fight again. Nice set up, easy.I left the table empty until Danny boy arrived and let him decide what to play. Was a toss up between Arnhem in 54mm or Ancients.
Less hassle setting up terrain So Ancients it was.We can do Arnhem NEXT Month.
Restrained ourselves from using more troops. Spanish, More Gauls,Carthaginians ect.
Now, back to painting, something.
