54mm Stadden Figures (1 Viewer)

Hi All,

I was fortunate to stumble into a lot of Sudan/South African Victorian Little Wars period Stadden soldiers that I immediately sent over to John "Obee" and asked him to make his magic on them and I am happy to say that he brought them back to life! It is a pitty that such high grade of art and details that these Stadden sets used to have are no longer there.....There are great guys in the cottage industry rolling great sets but not at the same variety as Stadden did..ops I do recoginize that Martin ( Maison Militaire ) , Bryan at Yeomanry and Tropper are great contributors to the hobby and hold them at high respect...do not take me wrong, it is just that we not having the Stadden sets around is a dent in the hobby...
Cheers

A few more...this time mixed up with some Little Legion, Tradition, Steadfast and sets from the late Craig from Wilson Edwards....The Stadden ones are the two soldiers manning a Steadfast maxim on a galloper, and the kneeling soldier on the background plus the Regimental flag bearer...
Cheers

Artillery Crazy,

I enjoy seeing these old Staddens given a new life.

Are the three figures in the scarlet and blue carrying boxes bandsmen?

Scott

Scott,

yes, the 3 figures are all drummers, without drum, but carrying ammo boxes.

This is another image of them that I took when I painted them.

Nicely done, John!

To Artillery-Crazy, I agree, Stadden was the gold standard for many years, especially for the engraved details and a figure's animation. Tradition still has the molds to make these, the "custom" figures, but they stopped selling them almost 10 years ago. I think I might have been the last person on Earth to have ordered one from them. Fortunately, there are still a lot of them circulating on the secondary market. With John's painting, this is a unique addition to your collection.

Prost!

Thanks Brad,
They are really a high light to my collection! Pitty that I only too late came to know the series and given the fact that I am not in the " hub where thinks happen - the UK " I tend to touch only the outling deals that skip into the open market......
During the second half of 2014 I will be sending John some more Stadden Sudan sets for revival....{sm4}:salute:::D....looking forward to post them in 2015....( these sets tend to travel a lot...from their original homes in the UK to Brazil, then to Australia and then back to Brazil for their final resting place.....That is if when I am gone my Misses does not get rid of them for a chunk of change.....huuuuug^&confuse:confused:{eek3}{sm3}{sm2}

A rare to find 40 pdr British siege gun manned by a garrison of Charles Stadden Royal Artillery......great set...
We normally see it being limbered up on a Mountford version or limbered and being dragged along.....Well now, thanks to Obee we have it in action!

Hi All,
Fresh from the troop ship coming from down under the latest Jock Battalion has arrived, this time with the HQs officers.
Along the marching contingent and officers, Obee also sent me a squad ready to repel an assault to the square section allotted to the Scot´s to hold while their Sgt has some time to enjoy his pipe....
This Stadden Scottish Regiment now taking form has grown substantially these months thanks to Obee´s great expertise and dedication...Without Obee, these over 30 years old sets would be sitting lost at the Virginian fair from which they were rescued and given new life in the New World.......
Pitty I do not have pics of what these sets looked like when I bought them...with no lick of paint and just a grey prime over them all...no wonders they were hard to spot....But a keen eye always has a chance to scoop a treasure trove.
Of all these sets, considering that the whole contingent of around 84 soldiers between officers and rank and file....Obee is gradually painting them and 35 are now ready... and as he goes along some rank and file is given a promotion to Sgt and Corporals so as to develop a real sense of working Battalion...Other than the great luck of literally tripping over the box they were in at the fair, what is more remarkable ( on top of Stadden Scots are rare to find ) were the set of officers...one even with a Glenmore broad sword drawn out ready to slash in half a Fuzzy Wizzy that by fate crossed his path...
To be fair there are two Tradition From London in the group, just to show how these two brands complemented each other, they blend very well indeed...
More to come.....And looking forward to taking pics of the whole Battalion together in field maneuvers soon....
Cheers
