At first, XXX Corps made rapid progress across most of its front but after the first day, German reinforcements appeared and violent clashes were reported with a regiment of the 6th Parachute Division and armored detachments.

After the war, General Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Allied Supreme Commander, commented this "was some of the fiercest fighting of the whole war" and "a bitter slugging match in which the enemy had to be forced back yard by yard". Montgomery, the 21st Army Group commander, wrote "the enemy parachute troops fought with a fanaticism un-excelled at any time in the war" and "the volume of fire from enemy weapons was the heaviest which had so far been met by British troops in the campaign."

One of my favourite tanks and beautifully displayed. Imagine coming up against this monster and it's lethal barrel. Luckily only 20 odd were produced and therefore had little impact on the war. Robin.

Very good mate my favorite TGM sets pity his pipe is broken mine are to lol.

Was that a pipe he was supposed to have? I thought it was a cigar butt and it was not broken at all. I do like Thomas Gunn figures as they seem so real, uncanny even, and this Strumtiger was a off brand I purchased in a lot, I think Model Power or something, not sure and it might be under scale but in the positioning it does loom rather large with that stubby barrel. I can only imagine the recoil and loud sound when it fired its rocket and how they vented it might be interesting too.

I took these shots awhile ago and just found them looking at some old card readers. It was last minute at sunset and I was trying to portray that the Strumtiger just arrived in support and they were working on ranging in the area. The last shot would have been awesome if I lite a smoke bomb off downrange as some of the cheap fireworks make a realistic upward smoke column much like a brewing up Sherman.

Cheers

The Sturm was new model army

Yes that is right, are they still around as they were affordable and durable too? The commander is part of the set and no complaints in both his sculpture and paint, however I am thinking what might be done on his binocular lenses, perhaps a drop of resin rather than the silver paint most often used by most manufactures.

I really should post more because everyone loves pictures!
