The BBC begins its mammoth four year 2,500 hour WW1 Centenary season with a new series ' Britain's Great War' fronted by Newsight's Jeremy Paxman. (he of the confrontational interview style) Not sure how he'll be as a presenter of docu series but it is getting good previews.

So 9pm means phone off the hook, feet up, maybe a glass of something mellow, the weather can howl and blow outside all it wants, I've really been looking forward to this season:salute::

I find myself hoping that some of the upcoming BBC WW1 Centennial programming might find it's way to BBC America before the Centennial is over.:rolleyes2: We get some excellent programs but most are years old. -- Al

How do you do that since it can only be watched in the UK?

Do you have a link that works outside the UK because when I go to the BBC 1 Player, it says this is not available outside the UK.

Well I enjoyed this first episode a lot. It was not a history of the conflict by any means but more a look at the effect of the War on Britain and it's people. From spy mania in London, to the near disaster at Mons, from the German naval bombardment of Hartlepool killing many children to postmen leaving their jobs because they could no longer stand delivering the dreaded death telegrams. Sad, enlightening and shocking moments in the lives of ordinary folk helped make this a very enjoyable prog. I'm not sure which was the sadder , the three sibling children killed by a German naval shell trying to run away hand in hand or the poor Scottish woman who could not let go of her husbands hand through the window of his troop train and was dragged to her death under it.

Should be an excellent series and a great start to the season.
