A Beau Geste Christmas (2 Viewers)

Gentle Friends,

I have gathered, from reading many posts, that most of us enjoyed an excellent Christmas. For my family, Christmas is a magic time of year in which we enjoy the warmth and closeness of family, renew the bonds of meaningful friendships, and give thanks for the blessings we have experienced during the year. As I watched with pleasure as my two year old granddaughter opened her presents, I warmly thought "Christmas is for and about children." However, I was soon to discover my family and friends know full well that a young child lives within me. And, they demonstrated this knowledge by choosing some very special gifts for me.

As I removed the wrap from my gifts, much to my pleasure, I discovered family members and good friends had conspired to provide me with three sets of Beau Geste Delhi Durbar figures. Their thoughtfulness is one of those blessings to which I referred above. I carefully removed the figures from their boxes and inspected them. As soon as I had the time, I quickly photographed them and placed the figures on display in my display room. I thought you might like to see them. I will present them to you in three posts.

The first set of figures is Beau Geste Set #121, the Soldiers of the Maharajah of Sikkim. As usual, the figures are well sculpted, magnificently painted, and excitingly colorful. The set appears below for your examination. Enjoy!

The second set of Beau Geste figures I received for Christmas is Set #143, Sikkim's Elephant Guard Escort. If you look closely at the photographs below, you will note the heads of the figures have been installed in slightly different angles which gives each figure some uniqueness. Further, the arms of the figures are also installed at slightly different angles and allows the figures to hold their lances in individual ways. And, finally, some of the figures are right handed while others are left handed.

As a result of these individual characteristics, each member of the group demonstrates individuality and they work amazingly well as a group of soldiers escorting royalty riding on a highly adorned elephant.

And, the final set of figures I received for Christmas was Beau Geste Set #218B, Akalis on Pony from Jhind. And, what an interesting set it is!

The set consists of two armored figures riding small ponies. If you think the figures seem large, it is because they are riding ponies, not full grown horses. While my knowledge of the Durbar and of Indian history does not include an explanation for why these soldiers were riding ponies instead of horses, I must admit the combination of armored men and ponies provides a most interesting image. And, interesting images is one of the things I find so appealing about the Durbars.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing these figures. They are all on display in my home. Sometime, you should come see the entire display.
