The travels of this package are too good not to share.
In early November I sold an item on eBay, the buyer paid, I took it down to our mail room to send out FedEx Ground, it went out and that -- as with most packages -- I figured was the end of it.
In the middle of November I got a message from the buyer, saying he hadn't received his package so I checked on it. The package was originally destined for Indiana and lo and behold the package is in Oregon! ***??? After it left NJ, it headed to Iowa, then went to Nebraska, Utah, Idaho and then Oregon. At that point I arrived on the scene. Apparently, the mail room had misread a number and inserted a "9" where a "4" should have been.
Anyway, I told FedEx where it needed to go and I figured it would be on its merry way to its right destination. I profusely apologized to the buyer.
Next thing I know, the package has found its way to Kentucky and then to Ohio, where it's out for delivery. Hello! ^&confuse
By this point the buyer told me he had lost interest -- who could blame him -- and asked if he could have his money refunded, which I promptly did, whereupon I told Fed Ex to please just return it to me.
According to FedEx, it has to be returned by the same route it originally took so the package now goes -- you guessed it -- to Iowa, Nebraska (skipping Utah and Idaho) and then to Oregon. It then went from Orgeon to Idaho to Kentucky, finally arrving back in NJ today.
This package must have more frequent travel miles than I do {eek3}
Moral of the story: next time you write out a label, make sure that zip code is crystal clear!
