They are not Russian, mind you they come from the Ukraine, but I think their work looks fantastic and is worth a look (or more than that).

They are:

1-Sergei Popovichenko, a master painter and modeller for people like First Legion and others:

2-Vorobiov Ruslan, from Mariupol, another fantastic painter

You'll notice that their work is a little different from the Russian tradition: less ornament ( that tradition sometimes quite baroque if always beautiful and outstanding work, see Niena, Nevskaya or Arsenyev) and more ragged realism, more into the modeller vein. Nonetheless I find their work (from these photos mind you...) fascinating, the darker tones very interesting to the watcher, these are really little men aren't they? And both of them sure know how to take great photos of their work, they look like real photos and not artistic variations on the item...

Enjoy if you'd like,
Paulo

Thanks for sharing those links. Both are wonderful artists. i think the darker, grittier colors add a level of realism that the commercial pieces don't have. These soldiers are definitely battle worn and alive!
Do you know if they are taking commissions?

I don't know about Vorobiov Ruslan but Sergei Popovichenko is taking commissions, he has a facebook account and you can contact him that way (I have found no email address on his blog). If you need any other information feel free to PM me.

Cheers,
Paulo

I got in touch with Sergei and will be adding to my collection soon! :)
