A few new Warbirds (1 Viewer)

Welcome back Pierre! You were missed. I also opted for the Arado over the Swordfish, but only because I had the original K&C swordfish model from 1993. The new one is obviously far superior, but I like to have as many different aircraft as possible in my collection, and I had never been able to locate the original Arado Floatplane K&C did in the mid-1990's.

Hi Greg-

Congrats for your acquisition.

I hesitated between the Arado and the Swordfish but finally went for the first one (reminiscence of my childhood).

I totally agree with you in respect of Andy.

My three Bf 110 were broken (the same problem as you - landing gears). Andy and Fanny took care of eveything.

The new packaging is great and I am sure that those kind of incidents will be the exception in the future. Great work Andy!

BTW, which model did you ordered?

Pierre.

Welcome back to the TF forum Pierre. Interesting times, I would say. Looking forward to you posting more photos of those warbirds. While they don't appeal to me for purely financial reasons - I do appreciate why you and others love them so much.
To paraphrase a very helpful and considerate member on the other channel;
Peace - Harry. :):)

Welcome back Pierre, wish I could afford the warbirds and I think you made a wise investment with those babies. Trouble is they look so nice you can never sell them!
RD

Thanks for the welcome back, RD. I appreciate.

Yesterday, I wrote in another place, where I am a moderator - could you imagine that? - the members must adopt themselves to the forum, not the forum to the members. I guess that I have to follow my own sayings now :):)

As far as the Bf 110s are concerned, they were, in my opinion, the most elegant heavy fighter of WWII. It was then impossible, for me, to make a choice. Accordingly, I ordered the three (I wish that Andy produces a Bf 110 in a desert camo like the prototype bought by Louis - the underline is intended to Andy ;)).

K&C released their Bf 110s shortly after I sold my WWII collection. So, in fact, it was a trade: the three Bf 110s plus nearly sixty (60) sets from the SOHK range (thanks to Bill (Moore) for the opportunity to acquire a large number of retired items - and regards) for my WWII collection. For me, it was a pretty good deal as I had lost all interest in that range.

Unfortunately, it is not Christmas every day and I had to pass the Bf 410 - superb model - and the Swordfish - unbelievable one - because I can't afford all of them this time.

On the other hand, I have to say that I am more than happy since Andy did not produce a Macchi 202 (desert camo) at the same time he produced the Arado.

To be able to buy the Arado, I will not purchase anything else in november and december. In January, I'll see... maybe a single figure a 25,00$ :D

Mes meilleures amitiés,
Pierre.

Thanks for the kind words, Louis.

It was my guess that you choose the Arado because you didn't had this model until now.

Also, the Whirlwind was a very beautiful fighter and is a very unusual model - I have to post some infos about it.

Have any idea of the next Warbirds that Andy will release?

Pierre.

Welcome back you too, Harry.

Things are well done, no? Same day :):)

You're now a sagacious man (be also my destiny) - Peace to you :)

PS - I love that Warbirds thread.

At the beginning of 1939, Westland won a contract for the production of 200 high-speed fighter with their Whirlwind prototypes.

The Whirlwind was the first RAF twin-engined fighter and the most firepowered fighter in the world.

In July 1940, Squadron # 263 was the first to receive the new fighter and their first success was on 8 February 1941 as an Arado Ar 196 was destroyed.

Unlikely, only 8 Whirlwinds were delivered from July 1940 to the end of the year.

Squadron # 137 was the second and last unit to be equipped with the Whirlwind.

Effectively, the Whirlwind performed extremely bad in fighter against fighter situation.

Because of that (and other considerations), the initial order of 200 was cut to 112 and another 200 order was cancelled.

Production stopped in January 1942.

In June 1943, Squadron # 137 was equipped with Hawker Hurricane IVs and Squadron # 263 received Hawker Typhoons in December 1943.

Only one Whirlwind survived WWII and was dismantled in 1947.

Pierre.
