Q...What was the first Allied fighter to fly to Berlin and back from English bases and, when did it happen?

(At least this one will not put me in the frame for slander or defamation)

Yes, correct Spitfire PRF1 entering service in 1940.

Interestingly though the Spitfire D which entered service shortly after the F had even longer range and, on 29th Oct 1940 FO Millen flew a PR to Stettin east of Berlin in a 5 hour 20 min flight the longest to date. Remarkable for what many believe was a short range fighter.

Mitch you said First Fighter to reach Berlin & back but that a Photo recon Spitfire :p:( = no guns :rolleyes:
