Hi Konrad,

Congratulations on your magnificent "Game of Croquet" display. This a wonderful addition to your British Empire collection. It is truly a masterpiece as you said in your kind message. I stand in awe at this brilliant composition by John Firth, who with you keeps the glossy miniature dream alive. Your photographs have held my rapt attention since I came home from work late yesterday.

Best Wishes, Raymond.:)

All I can say is WOW!!!! What a masterpiece by John Firth. It would be right at home in any museum.

Hi Guys

I thought it about time I came on to the forum and reply to Konrads request. First of all a BIG thanks for all of your kind comments, they are much appreciated. I have to say I really enjoyed doing this one as I like doing all of Konrads stuff as after the initial brief he gives me free reign to develop the scenes I produce for him.

Has I haven't really given Konrad a break down this time of all the components of the scene I think I better explain a few things about it.
First of all the main set of figures participating in the croquet game are two native Indian officers and two British officers (without turbans)
The two in green kurtas are officers of the 30th Lancers (Gordon s Horse). the two Officers in blue kurtas are 2nd Lancers (Gardner's Horse) all the croquet pieces and the lady with umbrella with her native servant are from the castings (with a few modifications) are from John Eden Studios which were purchased by Konrad and started the whole idea off.

The lady and gentleman on the bench with dog,all three benches, the photographer and snake charmer are from castings by John Eden.

The two British sergeants watching the snake charmer are castings originally made by Chota Sahib were purchased on ebay but used to be sold by Sarum Soldiers.

the three Indian Officers purchased as castings are from the Tradition Squadron Range sculpted by Mr Alan Caton.

The guy in Khaki is SQN54/88 Officer Bahawalpur state Force Bodyguard Lancers.

The guy in green with white turban is SQN54/187 Officer 1st Lancers Hyderabad State Force.

Number 3 is SQN54/185 Officer of Lancers Kashmir State Force.

Uniform reference was gained from the Tradition Magazine special Indian cavalry issues nos 50/73 and Almarks Indian Cavalry Regiments by A H Bowling.

The shell of the diorama base is MDF with walls and flooring details in Styrofoam carved and painted and covered elsewhere on the forum. plants are various paper and brass etched kits available on the internet as are the two plastic palm trees (kit form) keeps the costs to the customer down.

The doors are from Historex again in kit form and the fountain is also a resin kit from a company called FOG models excellent stuff on there site also a shop on ebay.

I think that's about covered it. if you have not seen my site here is the address www.beatingretreat.com or pm me through the forum

Thanks again for the kind words,now to get Louis Badalotos diorama finished.

Kindest Regards John:salute::

Thanks for explanations, John :salute::

Here's one more detail shot of the couple on the bench with their dog.
Again, a lovely little "stand alone" within the entire diorama.

Happy Collecting!

Konrad

Thanks for the explanation John. I'm wondering how long it took to carry out the project, from conception to completion.

Hi Brad

We had some delays here and there but I would say getting all the bits and pieces together, making and painting to shipping about 5 months in all.
I will pm you about your other question.

Regards John

Hi all,

thanks again to everyone for the positive reception and responses to this new piece in my collection.
It is very much appreciated.

Today I did a photo session for pictures to illustrate an upcoming feature in the TSC (Toy Soldier Collector) magazine.

Attached you find a sample of them.

It really made my day today, to have a good amount of time available and being able to "play" :smile2:

All the best and, of course, Happy Collecting!

Konrad
