Had a good day over the weekend, went to see the first rehearsal for the Trooping, the Major General's Parade. The procedure was exactly the same as the Trooping apart from some minor uniform differences due to Royalty not being present. The drum majors and the mounted bands wore regimental dress as opposed to State, and the officers wore their normal crimson sashes as opposed to the gold and crimson version. The salute was taken by the Major General commanding the Household Division. Really great to be there and to see things from a different angle to that normally shown on TV, my favourite part where the colour is shown to the escort who present arms while the colour sergeants at the corners face outwards at the high porte to indicate the guard on the colour being maintained, the difficult left form, the impossible band "spin wheel" which looks utter confusion with everyone moving in different directions until suddenly order is resumed. The King's Troop ranked past in advance of the Household Cavalry, surprising how many females were in the Troop doing as good a job as the squaddies. All in all a really first class treat, thoroughly enjoyable.

Alan, it certainly is a good day out, last time I went the SLR was in service!

Now that would be great to see,for anyone who has been in the services especially a Infantry battalion will realise how hard and boring drill is but to the onlooker spectacular,me personally hated drill would rather be out in the field,cheers for the great pics and story.
