A Great Baseball Night in New York! (2 Viewers)

Gary,

There's only one sport I'm passionate about and that's baseball. Don't follow hockey too much although I do root for the Rangers and root for both football teams. I haven't followed football too much yet what with the Mets. How are the Rams doing?

Brad,

What? There is only one sport about which your are passionate? And,..it is baseball? You might go back and read the items you posted during the World Cup competition. I think there are at least two sports about which you are passionate! ;)

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Oh yes, that's true. I do love World Cup. I've been a Mets fan since 1962, saw my first game at the old Polo Grounds, where the Giants (before they moved to the left coast) used to play. Saw Hank Aaron steal second.

We've been to the playoffs so rarely and earned more a record for futility that you have to appreciate each trip because you never know when it might happen again.

Brad, the Rams are 4 & 1, and in first place, but being a realist, it,s a fluke, don,t think they will be there come December.
Made a mistake, your first baseman is not Kranepool but who else than marvelous Marv Thronberry.
Do you remember the Cards - Mets 80,s rivalry and the "pond scum" name for the Mets.
Never forget, I was working security and seated on the field next to the Mets dugout because of threats to Met players when Strawberry hit that home run that struck the clock tower in old Busch Stadium to beat the Cardinals.
For the past several years the Cardinals went in the playoffs as the favorites, this year as underdogs, that,s why I believe they will be a surprise, especially with all your injuries to pitchers.

Gary,

Who can forget "Marvelous Marv"? What a character. We've certainly had some like the wonderfully named Choo Choo Coleman. The Mets were so bad then they were good, even outdrawing the lord-ly Yankees.

Yes, I do remember the great rivalries of the mid 80 between the Cards and the Mets. Never forget hitting that tower or the Pendleton home run. I also do remember how we crushed you with a four game sweep at Busch in early 1986 and that basically finished off you guys. I don't think HoJo's homer has come down yet :)

Re this year, Willie's formula, as seen in the Dodgers series, as a result of the injuries to the starting rotation is to allow the starters to go about 4 or so innings and then pull them and bring in his bullpen, which is the deepest in the NL. If Wille can go two games with Glavine and he can go 6, he can bring in Mota, Heilmann and Wagner to finish it off. With the others, he has a variety of other pitchers who can get him the 5th and 6th innings. I just don't think you guys can match the pen or the lineup.

And if I'm wrong, we were fortunate with our post season starting pitching to get where we did and hopefully we'll pick up a good starter or two next year.

Tonight was the culmination of a great baseball night in New York (if you're a Mets fan): Yankees lose and Mets move to the League Championship series.

Let's Go Mets!!

Jazzeum, I have been a Mets fan since the beginning. LET"S GO METS to the second power!

The only reason this Yankee fan would root for the Mets is because you hired a great Yankee as a manager........GO WILLIE........Mchael

Yesterday and today are dreary days in New York and in the baseball fraternity throughout the country with the death of Cory Lidle, who played for many teams including the Yankees (presently) and the Mets.

Say a little prayer for his family.
