Dear One and All,

Re the question “Why do we do Heydrich and Rohm?

1. Heydrich He was the #2 in the hierarchy of the SS. As head of the SD he literally knew “where all the bodies were buried” — I’m sure he helped bury a few of them. It is said that it was him, and not his immediate superior Reichsführer Himmler, who was the most feared man in Germany. It is also hinted that Himmler himself went in fear of him and was secretly glad when he met his timely end at the hands of Czech agents parachuted in to assassinate him. His high position alone guarantees his entry into the LAH ‘Rogues Gallery”.

2. Ernst Rohm As has been noted this notorious Nazi met his inglorious end in 1934 (Night of the Long Knives) — technically 4 years before our Berlin ’38 series takes place. However, he is a major Nazi personality and his rotund, porcine figure makes him a very interesting piece to design and sculpt.

Another factor is that photographically Rohm is the most prominently known S.A. leader. His successor, Victor Lutze, was a relative nonentity. So that’s my reason for including him.

P.S. Has anyone seen the BBC/HBO/SHOWTIME movie “CONSPIRACY” about the Wannsee Conference with Kenneth Branagh as Heydrich? Outstanding! Great history…great attention to detail…and great acting.

The HBO movie is good, but it is based on an older German version entitled "The Wansee Conference". You can get it with English subtitles. I think it is worth seeing both.
