William McTavish, a special artist for the Edinburgh Evening News has captured the typical appearance of the Fuzzy-Wuzzy in the Sudan during the Mahdist Uprising in the 1880s. McTavish accompanied the Black Watch and Gordon Highlanders during the Gordon Relief Expedition of 1884-85.
