When I returned from the Canaries last week I caught up with the tragic news of the passing of our dear colleague Alan Caton known to the forum as Trooper. Amongst my other e-mails was a request from the Toy Soldier Collector magazine for any photos I may have of Alan in attendance with the TF Brit Brigade at the London Shows. I have now forwarded these to the editor.
Along with my fellow TF Brit colleagues who have attended many of the London shows I personally found Alan to have been exceptionally knowledgeable on the history of our hobby and it was always a complete joy to engage him in conversation. But above all he was that rarity today of being an absolute English gentleman. I and my colleagues shall miss his articulated and intelligent posts on the forum and his company at the London shows.
Mark Avery's intention is to truly mark Alan's enormous contribution to the TS hobby in style with a proposed 4-5 page feature in the next issue of the TSC magazine. It has also been suggested that when the usual TF suspects assemble at our favourite watering hole next Saturday lunchtime we line up for a group photograph and raise our glasses to Alan's memory. I will then forward the photograph to TSC who will include it within their proposed Trooper memorial feature.
I have no doubt I can count on my fellow Brit Brigade colleagues to execute such a request.
