Guys

I had one of those calls you get in life every now and then that make you think great!

A gentleman called who had just bought from one of the museums we supply in London. He had picked up a K&C Cromwell.

He wanted to call and see if we have a Sherman.........reason he was an 86 year old tank commander, and helped design (in the field) the Cromwell and the Sherman development.

Why did i like his call:-

1, his opening comment was ' i saw HER locked behind a glass cabinate and knew i had to have HER.' he then told me some great stories!

2, It gave me great pleasure that i / K&C / we could give a small bit of pleasure to a gentleman that gave so much.

3, It made me chuckle, as he did not see a rivet or wrong pantone colour, or logo or bit of wire missing or a clean track, moving track etc HE saw what he went to battle in and it made him happy.

If the design of a K&C vehicle or in fact ANY manafacture model can do that then who really gives a Monkeys if it is missing details.

He drove it, he fought in it and he helped design it!! if its good enough for him then its good enough for me!

OK so there are some gaffs every now and then, OK there is artistic licence every now and then and OK sometimes uniforms are out or a rivet is missing.

Is it not about the happiness a hobby can bring is it not about enjoyment!!?? because if its not why am i having such a blast! :D

Toy soldier collecting is not damaging to your health unless you make it that way!!

Guys the reason the forum stalls everynow and then is that people cannot accept that people like what people like. I dont care if someone only buys x,y,z i will happily talk hobby with them.

LETS TALK HOBBY and lets enjoy it...................and am i bloody sure i am happy that i did not have to go to war in a cromwell and watch my mates get blown up around me!!

THEY ARE TOYS and we are BIG BOYS!

Tony

PS Oh and bythe way there will be a FREE Sherman winging HER way to him when it gets here!!

PPS Rob dont try calling me and pretending to be a WAR vet he has photographic evidence lol :D

great story Tony!! I love talking to the ol' vets that come into my meat department every week, always take time out for a chat or two, but I also agree, this is a pleasurable hobby, whatever we collect, here's a tip o the mug to all us collectors...Sammy

Tony, Rob does have photo evidence of being in the war. Rob just posted a photo of himself in a landing craft ready to storm the beaches of Normandy. Rob, why don't you send that pic to Tony.

I'm gland to see that Rob visited one of the other IWM venues. Crossing that landing craft deck always gives me a cold shiver down my spine when I take the kids to Duxford. The sound of machine gun rounds pinging of the sides that they play as you cross is a reminder of how lucky we are today.

Great photo Rob I'm with you on this one Rob duck and cover!

Tony,
That post is what makes reading the Forum each day worthwhile. As an old Centurion Tank Commander I can assure all the guys that war in not fun but Toy Soldiers collecting in fantastic. Keep up the great work.
The Cromwell and Sherman are great AFV's, but Andy, what about an Aussie Vietnam MK 5 Centurion.
Cheers from the Land Downunder, Howard
