A question on retiring sets (1 Viewer)

Yeah I am gutted I would really like in particular a load more of the BR040 figures, but these really do seem to have dried up with all suppliers UK and US :rolleyes2:{sm2}

K&C if your reading I would have bought at the very least 100 of these figures if they were still for sale!!!

As to the comparison of First Legion and K&C, Mitch (I think) posted a picture and showed figures from each vendor (Militia guys if my old noggin serves me well).

AND yes, Mitch is correct; {eek3}{eek3}the K&C were larger and fuller while the FL sets were much more slender. However when I use the FL and the K&C together they are not standing side-by-side, but place in various positions around the diorama. Heck real people aren’t all the same size and build

Now, I am only speaking from AWI sets and I cannot attest to WWII, Romans or whatever.

As far as the quality and detail, I generally place figures in 3 different groups. There are some incredible sets (at incredibly high prices) which I define as Connoisseur. See the Neina figures at Level 4 or Level 5 as an example.

First Legion, Thomas Gunn, John Jenkins and K&C are a higher quality and detail. I don’t consider the FL to be “TRUE” Connoisseur, but they are very close. Then the vendor such as Frontline, Conte and Britains are other sets that work well but (IMO) not with K&C and FL and such.

I have good collection of both Conte AWI and Britains AWI (the older 17000 – 17500 series) and love them, so you Conte and Britains fans please don’t flame me. :(

There are many other TS vendors that have AWI and they are wonderful in their own right, but not my “cup of tea”.

BUT …. when you can’t find a figure to fill out a scene or the vendor just doesn’t make that pose what are you options? K&C only as a couple of AWI causalities so what is my choice there? Plus the K&C Militia was a tiny run or six figures (AR57-AR62) which dried up fast. Once again if I want Militia where do I go.

As Cornwallis mentioned he would like 100 marching AWI K&C Brits but when they get retired and eBay vendors start raising the prices options are few.

Well, my 3 ½ cents worth on this Friday morning over a cup of Vanilla/Hazelnut coffee. Bottom line is always have FUN, enjoy you TS, forget about real world troubles and mix my K&C, FL, Britains, Conte for one heck of a brawl.

Happy weekend guys and good collecting. ---- Larry
(PS – Anyone who has K&C Militia, Backwoodsmen they want to move, let me know)

These are the guys I was talking about. So classic & nothing else like them on the market...I thought they would have become a main staple like Berlin 38.

Nazis, redcoats...same thing, right? ^&grin

Well, that work, buts only to a certain degree. The K&C do not work that well with the Conte and Britains, at least in my view. They work well with each other but the scale and design do not match up with K&C. Now, First Legion sets are a possibility, but there was discussion about that on another thread someplace. --- Larry

The size isn't great and the coloring is somewhat off, but for the Conte figures at least the British regulars have fairly similar uniforms. I generally use K&C troops in the foreground with Conte figures to flesh out the background. Britains doesn't tend to be too useful for supplementing regiments except I did pick up a flagbearer and several officers for my 10th Lincolnshires.
