New acronym: Best Set Ever. Thus, A Spot of Mulled Cider is the BSE by Britains in gloss. It is beautifully sculpted (THANKS KEN!!!!), nicely painted, but most impoartantly, the concept is just so great, and it is so.....just charming in person. I just got it yesterday, and will post pics soon. The cart is so cute too:eek::D

Thanks very much!
I am still waiting for my sets and can't wait to put it with the other two. I will take some pictures when I get mine also... looking forward to seeing yours.
All the Best,
Ken

I received mine - (Huge packaging) but all good - made it down to NZ all nice and safe and snug. Very very happy with it. I think it looks great.
Cheers

Hi Guys

I have this piece and the two previous sets and agree that it is a very nice piece but I am dissapointed with this recent piece as it does not fit up to my other set as it is shown on previous threads. For some reason the wall and pavement that I have is out of alinement and when fitted up to the other set there is a big gap between them, which spoils the whole look of the 3 piece set.

I rang Britains UK office about 3 weeks ago, I spoke to a lady who at that time said they had no other complaints but she would ring me back when she had investigated the problem. No telephone call came, so I rang them yesterday, they told me that they had,had some complaints about this problem but unfortunately could do nothing about it as it was a manufacturing fault. They did offer to reurn my money back on me sending the set back.

I dont want to do this as I would like to have all 3 sets in my collection. I did point out that they were still advertising the piece on the Britains website so would surely have some other sets in stock but alas they said they were too busy and had not got the time to check the other sets out (perhaps for a replacement).
They did say they might check a set out in store and get back to me, but I got the impression I was taking up their time. Needless to say not happy:(, which is a shame as I have been a satisfied member of the Britains collectors club until now.

Here are some pics of the set, I dont think Im being unreasonable do you?

Now if they'd only follow up with a set depicting Bavarian guardsmen enjoying Gluehwein and Kastanien from a Dirndl selling them on the Marienplatz.

John - I was sorry to see the trouble you have had. Our folks in the UK office were trying to sort out but we hit a rather embarrassing snag, they did not have any sets of 50003C, the first Christmas Set, left to butt up against Mulled Cider to check the fit. We were out of 50003C here in the US as well. However, I just yesterday located a prototype in the warehouse which is now making its way to the UK so they can pull some sets out, check and find you a good replacement.

Please give us another week or two to get the set there and run the checks. Thanks for your patience and support.

Hi Richard,
This is why I buy from WBritain! As to the set, from my own copy, I can say that all the joints are not quite flush, mainly because the walls are not flush where they meet. Though this is a slight flaw, it does not show in most examples I have seen; beating retreat's set is probably just a little warped or bent, which makes the flaw more noticable. On another note- us there a possibility of a non-Brit winter set (by that I mean French- some Zouves perhaps?)?
Thanks,
Sandor

Ken, the reason I like your set so much is that each figure is just so expressive! The lifeguard is one of the best gloss sculpts in the series!

I've had the same problem with my set as john, I phoned up the uk collectors club & got pretty much the same responce.they told me to send it back for a refund which I don't want to do :( I want the piece in my collection but I want one that fits, they did say I could send the wall back on its own to swap it but no garantee that the new one would fit ether? I dont know what to do?

Craig - please see my reponse to John on page 1 - give us a week or two to get set 50003C there and check the fit so we can get you sorted as well. I know we can do a better fit than John has but as Sandor mentions there is some slight variation in all of them due to the fact that they are hand made resin items produced over a three year period - so some variation is inevitable, but again, not to the degree John had. So if yours looks like Johns' then we should be able to do better.

Richard

A possible solution, recognizing that there may be variation in the pieces, is to sand them and true up the joint that way. It is possible to do, though it might be a little tedious, and if you do decide to do it, be sure to wear a dust mask, and you could also use the wet-sanding technique, along with wearing a mask. Or have your regular repair person do it.

Prost!
Brad

Hello all,
For what it is worth, the first set was made with no plans to create any more to use with it, this set was to be a stand alone Christmas set.

When I made the second set I understood that some people would not have the first set, but might like the newest one so the indentations for the limestone courses were not designed in. This detail aesthetically compromised the finished look if you just displayed the second set alone.
Even more important to understand, is the shrinkage that occurs when Polyester Resin in curing. This can be unpredictable and the factory will sand these assemblies before painting, as they should. It appears that this is the real culprit as far as the general alignment is concerned.

In hindsight I am glad that there were not notches for registration on these sets as they would have never fit unless all three sets were made at the same time.

The same logic was used with the third set for the same reasons. An example of this is a local collector friend that cannot find the first set, but has acquired the second two.

I have all three of my sets together and I am very happy with the look even though they might not be a perfect match. It sure beats many of the Christmas items my family displays every year... although I am biased!

With that said the set pictured obviously does not mate well at all when placed next to the others, and Richard is taking the proper steps to help improve the fit to those that need it as much as he can.

I hope this explanation helps a bit...
All the Best,
Ken Osen

Craig - Please wait until they have the wall and can find a good match. Then club will be in touch. Thanks,

Richard

Shame this has happened. Perhaps future sets can :-

Incorporate the same wall/base pieces so they are just being recast for each different model.

Leave the wall pieces separate so they are free standing. (In John & Craig's case the wall piece could have been left in the box and the rest of the set used without ruining the integrity of the piece)

Maybe make the sets line up (base wise) but not rely on the previous piece for a match.
