A thought occurred to me the other day..... (2 Viewers)

Good old HG Wells...he was very funny.

"LITTLE WARS is the game of kings - for players in an inferior social position. It can be played by boys of every age from twelve to one hundred and fifty - and even later if the limbs remain sufficiently supple - by girls of the better sort, and by a few rare and gifted women."

"A Game for Boys from twelve years of age to one hundred and fifty and
for that more intelligent sort of girl who likes boys' games and books"

"Primitive attempts to realise the dream were interrupted by a great
rustle and chattering of lady visitors. They regarded the objects upon
the floor with the empty disdain of their sex for all imaginative
things"

The answer is at the top of Scott's post.

These are from the book "Little Wars" by HG Wells published in 1913.

I think these quotes are what's the question...

"..And yes, I tend to be "very severe upon my sex", but "I only speak as I find"..."

Hi Wendy,
Great Quotes! And only fitting since you are the W.Britains master painter that painted the range (Hint, hint). It is good to have another lady here on the forum!

I don't know how much I'll be able to add here, but I'll pop in from time to time. :)

And bonus points to 1879fanatic and super bonus points to glossman. You are correct. 'Tis Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, specifically A&E's version of the conversation.

Thanks for the welcome also. :)

Hi Wendy,

Thanks for the super bonus points.

Mike crossed the line first, so he gets the "Gold" medal.

Scott and Ericka were of great help too.

Here is the dialogue:

Mrs. Hurst: "You are very severe upon your sex, Miss Bennet."

Elizabeth: "I speak as I find."

Now I can retire for the night.

Good Night All, Raymond.

I have seen one woman buy figures for herself and had one buy one of my motorcycles also presumably for herself. So there:p
