I like the scale and action poses WB mat figures, but prefer a well painted gloss finish. So much of my collection is made up of toy soldiers I've repainted to suit my own particular taste. Presently putting together a display of the 114th Penn. Collis' Zouaves. Below is a sampling of some of the figures. - Ken

The company officer on the left started out as a WB collectors club figurer from a few years back of an Iron Brigade officer. I swapped out heads, added the beard and repainted figure to be fitting of a captain of the 114th Penn.

Lovely job on those Ken - though now I know your true occupation - perhaps, not so surprising!:D

There are many of us who prefer that lovely Glossy look for our Toy Soldiers - so I for one would be more than delighted to see a few more of your collection - should you be able to find time to show us some more, now and then.

Thanks for showing us these beauties. jb

Thanks Johnny, I know you are someone who likes a wee bit of gloss on their figures. :wink2:

And thanks to everyone for those ''Likes''. - Ken

Here's a few more repainted Zouaves. I really appreciate the quality of sculpting and the variety of poses in this W. Britain line of figures.

On these two, some facial hair was added before repainting.

Nicely done . . . . . I have all of these figures in my collection and after seeing photos of your work it almost makes me wish mine were glossy too . . . . .
:smile2: Mike

The beauty of glossing over the matte figures is that the detail is so much better on the matte figures that the gloss really brings out the definition. It really does look nice with the shading and not just solid colors like the original gloss figures. Great job and thanks for sharing the pictures. Also nice job on the conversions. What line of work are you in that enables your modeling skills.

Thank you Howard, These are completely repainted in order to brighten the colors and give them more of a visual ''pop'', especially under lights. Your right about the matte figures having the sculptural detail for some easy shading. These hybrids of mine sort of mix the charm of the old gloss figures with the sculpting and more historically accurate matte figures so popular today.

I'm an artist by living ...... so I'm quite comfortable with little brushes.

Also, thanks Mike E. for kind comments, and everyone else who ''liked'' the posts.

Some Black Hats of the Iron Brigade. - Filed off the wide stripe on the officer's pants before repainting.

Very nice work, Ken.
You know I love this approach, turning fine sculpted matte figures into glossy Soldiers :wink2:
The Zouaves particularly lend themselves for this.
The more colorful the better :smile2:

Thanks Konrad. - As you know, this glossing thing can be a slippery slope. You start to imagine how every matte figure might look shiny.
I was a bit concerned, when you left the hobby for awhile, that I lead you down a ''dark path''. :redface2:

I think I'm fondest of the Zouaves too. Will have to post some Confederates. They too look pretty cool. - Ken

Here's a few repainted ''Johnnies''.
