I don't really collect ACW but I always liked the Dismounted cav. I always thought the Guard Corps made some great cav. But I really like these W.Britains and am eagerly waiting for the rest of them like I'm sure many of you are.IMG_5265 (Small).JPG

I also have these figures on foot, the next release should be more troop mounted,bugle,guidon..........^&grin

I sure am eagerly awaitng mine. You just can't go wrong on WB ACW figures for the historical accuracy in the sculpt details and the price point.

Trousers over the boots and no sabers plus use of the carbines and not the pistols. These look pretty good. Is the series inspired by Buford's cavalry?

Yes - Buford's cavalry. These were researched and sculpted by WB master sculptor Ken Osen to represent Buford's cavalry at Gettysburg. Not only is Ken a talented artist, he is also a very serious historian, a historical re-enactor (ACW, War of 1812), and a museum curator. This is a rare combiination in today's scultor - a total package. When Ken does a sculpt, you can be assured that he has put the historical research into the figure to make it as accurate as possible including but not limited to; proper style of uniform for time of campaign, wearing of equipment, hats (forage caps instead of kepis - for Union), weapons, even down to what would be practical for the soldier to look like vs. what would be artistic to look like. That is why I am a big fan of Ken's work and whiy IMHO WB has the best ACW metal figures available.

Way back, Imrie/Risley had a Civil War dismounted US cavalry series that I've only seem photos of. Of course in those days you had to paint your own dang miniatures. Those had swords and exposed boots.

A nice fence would show these figures off well.

This a guard corps set, so you have a point of reference for Matts comment... IMO, the GC figures are still the best.

Those are really nice Gideon. I too have a set of dismounted Rebel Cavalry five figures (bit different) and without risking a blatant hijacking of this thread am going to offer them up in the classified section. I firmly believe that the Guard Corps Ltd figures are closer to 1/35 scale in size as opposed to WM Britains 54mm/1/32 size.
