Have recently been playing around with some spare Confederate figures from different manufacturers (mostly William Britain's). This involved swopping some heads & bases and repainting some figures (ongoing). Interesting how well they all go together in terms of size etc. Here are 6 Rebs pictured outside today in the late September sunshine. Figures are:
L-R
Recent issue Del Prado figure – to be repainted
WB repainted figure with Kronprinz head
Collector’s Showcase figure with WB base
WB flagbearer – repainted by Ian Smith (UK)
First Legion figure - unchanged
Kronprinz figure with WB head

Nicely done. A great way to expand your collection of "one-of-a-kind" figures.

I've always meant to ask UK Reb or Ken Osen this question, but your post shows you would know the answer. What tool do you use to amputate the heads or other extremities from metal figures when you set out to convert them? I'm sure a dremel is involved somehow...but what tool precisely?
Thanks.

I know you're asking the guys above. I suggest a jeweler's saw.

Thanks, guys. It is certainly an interesting and enjoyable way of adding variety to your collection.
As regards cutting implements I have used a small commercial hacksaw with reasonable success but the suggestion of a specialist jeweller's saw seems like a good one.
It is worth noting that some of the Kronprinz figures have heads (and sometimes arms) that can be easily detached as they are secured with metal pins, so no sawing required there!
Also, the CS figures' bases can be removed with a bit of levering using a screwdriver if you are so inclined. PS Conte figures are literally very hard to work with. They appear to be made of sterner stuff!
Regards to all,
Colman
