As we all know, the K&C Desert Rats are really hurting when it comes to armor. We all hope someday to see a Grant, Cruiser, or Valentine and hopefully a Matilda for those who started collecting after it was retired. In the meantime, I picked up a Forces of Valor UK Desert Grant at my local Target for a sweet $19.99. It is 1/32nd scale in contrast to K&C which is 1/30th but it works perfectly with some of the smaller 8th army figures: specifically Montgomery (who used a Grant) and the figures that come with the Vickers all of which are closer to 1/32nd that 1/30th. So if you want to add to your 8th Army armor and do desert dio with a new Brit tank, then here's your ticket mates. Plus you can't beat the price especially if you are hankering to buy those new K&C releases for the hoidays!

Here are 3 pix to give you an idea of the workability of figures and vehicle.
For a dio you can add paint and weather the Grant and add supplies and stowage. I tossed out the crew figure that came with the Grant--it was pretty bad. The hardest thing about the FOV models is getting the screws out of the retainer that protects the model from damage. Took me several hours since one of the Phillips screws stripped its head and I had to use a soldering iron to melt the plastic around the screw to free it. No damage to vehicle, however.

Has anyone put the FOV and K & C Grant tanks side by side - maybe the K & C IS 1/32 ;) :D

Oz, the KC Grant was of old vintage and closer to a true 1/30 scale..I have the Grant and it seems much larger than the FOV version...The KC figures from the Vickers are closer to 1/32 and would seem to fit the FOV footprint better .Michael

Thanks Michael, and I can't wait for more bigger K & C tanks to arrive to match the BIG Tunisian Tiger.

I love K&C, but I am really getting a little upset about the consistency of the scale. Sorry, I may be a little obsessive-compulsive, but the least yoy expect is figures within the same line to be the same scale. Look at the latest desert patrol figures; the heads of some of the figures look like they have been shrinked by jungle head-hunters. Individually the figures look amazing, there is no question about it. However, when you place them in a diorama, you can really notice the difference in scale. I know that is not a big deal for some. But since I was a kid, I remember being bothered by the difference in scale between my Corgis and Majorettes.

:( Hello Gil! I'm Originally from Brooklyn, N.Y., Now Retired and trying top enjoy my Remaing Life in the Warmer Climate! Anyhow, I've been on this Forum for quite sometime, and have Discussed about the Latest K & C Soldier and Vehicle sizes, and I'm glad, that, I'm Not the Only one to Notice, that the K & C Figure's are getting SMALLER! I just Purchased the FOB BRITISH, (Dunkirk),and Noticed that they are Smaller than the BBOG-GERMANS?

It always helps if we could have some comparison pictures.

Hi John:

I lived in Greenpoint, Brooklyn for many years, but then I moved to Queens. Nothing like the character of Brooklyn, though. I still go there often.
With regard to the true scale of the figures, I have never seen an explanation that makes sense. And I don't know why it doesn't bother more people. I know that the scale cannot be perfect, but the differences lately are becoming too obvious, especially when you look at the heads. I started collecting in 1999, and back then there was a differnce in scale between vehicles and figures, but not between figure and figure. It is sad that as the quality of the figures improves to amazing levels, the scale is becoming more inconsistent.
On the positive side, we will be able to use figures from different manufacturers in our dioramas.
Since we are on the topic. How do you feel about the figures being attached to the vehicles. I loved it when the figures could bew removed. It made the sets more versatile; you could use them in different scenarios.
