Algiers: The Lost One ! (2 Viewers)

In the past when I've been interested in watching it, it's not been available to rent, is all that I meant.

Understood. I first saw it on TCM. I don’t know if you have HBO Max in GB but they carry it. Prime Video also has it.

Alas Al, can't say I've seen it listed on TCM or other channel here in UK, that's not to say of course it's not been on at sometime. I think I'm just going to have to order it on dvd and be done !

Did see a pretty good film on Talking Pictures yesterday though about the SOE and the resistance in Belgian called "Against the Wind" made in 1948.

Steve, didn't take the UK viewing aspect into account. I have no idea what TCM programming is like overseas. DVD sounds like the way to go. -- Al

I just found the full film on YouTube.

Just responding to the new figures about a relatively forgotten episode

Hi,
I was in Aden 1966/7 with the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. It didn't feel much like a police action , 10months with grenades every day. Lost 9 men KIA in an ambush by mutineers from the Aden police......definitely felt like a war.

I've ordered the dvd, but thanks anyway.

One of the more interesting things about this film is how it is filmed; you feel like you are watching a documentary. It imparted such a reality that Pontecorvo put in a disclaimer that no actual footage was used.

The French banned the movie for five years as they did with Paths of Glory (for 18 years), one of the best films ever made (in my opinion).

Does not make it a war

It was always a holding action

There was no intention of staying long term like the Portuguese and French tired.

I have also lived through a few of these police action type " states of civil unrest " and been on the receiving end of a few of these political decisions in my part of the world

When you are going through it, it always seems a bit more in your face
