It's a great movie, wonderfully acted, about Abscam. It was a pity that the Mayor of Camden was caught up in this. Camden is the pits, one of the worst American cities. It is as bad now as it was forty years ago. My cousin used to work near there and he called it Jump City. I remember that Harrison Williams, who at the time was a respected US Senator from NJ, was nabbed in the scandal. Greed knows no bounds.

I know a state trooper who was stationed in Camden and he was under orders to have his gun unholstered at all times.I have rode through there and it's a scary place in broad daylight.Use to be a beautiful city.Urban decay in the US is a national disgrace.

It was an excellent film that my wife and I both enjoyed - a hard thing to achieve most of the time. {sm4}

The mayor was shown in quite a favourable light. That's one thing that made the film so interesting, that the bad guys were not always so bad and the 'good' guys, not so good. I had a look at the history and the actual guy wasn't quite as clean cut as the film version. I remember about half way through the film, when the wife began to get into things, the tension really took off and you could really feel the stress that main character was under.

Except for possibly the Mayor, I would disagree about the bad guys not being so bad. During Abscam, they took bribes and so abused the people's trust. They were scum who deserved what they received. Although money is the mother's milk of politics and this was garden variety fraud that unfortunately happens all the time, you have to rid those people from the body poliyic when you can.

I remember that it wasn't that they could be bought as a much as how cheaply they could be bought.
