Do you think K&C will ever create a line of Americans in North Africa during WWII?

Hi Balls11, and welcome to the forum:)

I may be wrong here, but I think these were requested before and Andy said that he thought that US figures for North Africa would be pretty similar to their European counterparts, however as I say I could be wrong. Anyone else remember that?.

Would be fairly similar and only really the unit markings would differ. Be as easy to buy some D Day sets and have the markings changed to your choice

I'm pretty sure the Big Red One D-Day figures would work in a North Africa theme. I know they were there, uniforms/equipment might be slightly different, not sure though...

Those figures should work fine. -- Al

Andy hasn't exactly produced US troops aimed at North Africa, but some of his models would be fine for the US Army in Tunisia with some modifications or repainting.

The "Classic Sherman" model would be right for an M4A1 of the US 1st Armored Division in Tunisia. The "Wounded Sherman" model is the same tank only with damage. Either would need to be repainted to correct markings. The M3A1 Scout Car was originally released in the Battle of the Bulge line and then re-done for the Normandy series in French markings. Either could also be repainted for North Africa. The "Patrol Jeep" is also applicable. Any Jeep with the wire cutter bar on the front should have that removed - it didn't show up until later. Many of the "DD series troops can be used. They should have the shorter tan field jackets and shouldn't have the gas mask carriers (seen on some Ranger sets). Tunisia was quuite cold in the winter months so some of the overcoated figures from the Battle of the Bulge sets might be usable with some minor changes.

It's not K&C but in 1/30th Figarti made an M3A1 Gun Motor Carriage ("tank destroyer") and their 2 1/2 ton tuck is the hard cab type that was used in North Africa.

So, no dedicated sets, but a number of possibilities for repainting or conversions.

Use the "Classic" Sherman and the U.S. 3rd ID figures for your Americans in North Africa displays. Here are mine getting scouted by the Germans!

That plane is low and slow enough those GI's should be taking some shots at it. I guess this points out how "green" they really were in North Africa. :)
The question as to weather or not K&C ever produce them I'd say its unlikely but you never know. D-Day takes presidence on American summer equipped troopers. I'm not sure how successful a new American North Africa line would be but it would be a nice addition for the collections of all WWII Africa campaign collectors. All the previous conversion suggestions from the forum members will have to suffice for now.

That is my recollection also Rob. I assume he hasn't changed his thinking on that.

Warbuff26, great shots. And he is right about using the 3rd Infantry Division soldiers made by K&C (incorrectly sold as DD figures by the way as the 3rd ID did fight in N. Africa but had no part in DDay/Normandy).

DD043, DD044 have the 3rd ID patch and maybe some others do as well.

DD043 and DD044 having 3rd ID markings (maybe some other early DD sets do as well?) which would place them in the North African theater so I guess K&C has already made them and might not have even known it?

I loved the 3rd ID figures......"To Hell and Back" was on the boxes. I wonder if Andy will ever give us more?

Defer to the experts here (which I absolutely am not) but was this division in Normandy. I have a vague recollection it was in Italy.

Brad, The 3rd ID was in the invasion of Southern France (Operation Dragoon).:)

Cheers!

No Brad. Third Infantry Division had no part in the DDay/Normandy operations. You are correct about Italy. They started in North Africa, came across to Italy, then up through southern France into Germany.

This is what is so perplexing to me that K&C offered sets DD043 and DD044 with Third Infantry markings.
