Guys, some people who I consider friends have raised points with me over recent months about my attitude to the Germans/Nazi's etc.

It has been pointed out to me that my description of them, attitude towards them is over the top, over zealous etc and this some people may find annoying. If this is the case I apologise most wholeheartedly to each of you. Please let me say that this attitude has been formed by the suffering my family went through in the War and the country wide Blitz suffered by this country in the early stages of the conflict.I have I believe let this anger (that some family feel to this day)bubble and boil to the surface resulting in me posting posts that are over the top and may appear to contain the hatred I deplore.

I am taking steps to address this and although remain firmly anti Nazi will try and tone it down a bit.

Best wishes to all

Rob

There is no need to tone down a healthy hatred of Nazis. The are the worst dregs of humanity to sully the face of the earth in the last thousand years. The only good Nazi is a dead Nazi as far as I'm concerned.

Rob,

I don't believe you have anything to apologize for as the atrocities of many German soldiers is beyond dispute.

I believe we should forgive but not forget.

no issues here Rob, if I were critical to people who are in a hobby of collecting WWII of anything that would make me a pretty big hypocrite, so nothing but love for you here...Sammy:)

Guys, thanks for your support, very kind.It wasn't someone having a go at me about this, quite the reverse in fact.A friend put it to me that perhaps my anti Nazi 'zeal' could make people think I am over the top a little and perhaps shouldn't labour the point too much.I am very grateful to this friend he is a decent chap and I appreciate his advice.

So if you don't mind I'd like to put my cards on the table here. You see I never come onto any forum with the intention of p***ing anybody off,I love this hobby a great deal and really enjoy sharing it with you all.Now I totally, totally accept that both my enthusiastic support for one particular company and my anti Nazi or 'Nazi scum' (as one chap refers to my posts;))post could well annoy people. In this case can I please ask a favour of you, please do what my good friend Lord Bob of UK Rebshire does,he writes to me and says 'waht are you on about' 'give it a rest' etc,he often uses very rude language that fare makes me blush!.But I relly appreciate it when he does it.

I do hope I am approachable and would much prefer you tell me straight than harbour a grudge,I've lost one person I considered a friend over this and do not wish to lose any others.

So if I go too far, tell me to button it!;)

All the best

Rob

Now, you see Rob, it's this type of comment that stands you on poor ground. For those of us who have had the privilege, nay, honour, to meet Lord Bob, we know that he would never stoop to the type of behaviour or language that you allude to. A consumate gentleman, if ever there was one.;)

You mean...he....only swears at me!;)

The thing that has always puzzled me is that despite the universal condemnation of the atrocities of the Germans during WW2, (and the comments on this thread confirm this), why is it that every military book list, AFV kit list, and model/toy soldier list is so heavily weighted with German material? Hardly a week goes by without yet another Tiger tank, some more baggy trousered infantrymen or a rehashed book with maybe one photograph that has not been seen previously.

There is a fascination with bad guys whether it's nazis or serial killers or gangsters. In addition, Hitler was a master of propaganda. So the uniforms, flags, and settings were designed to have a visual impact. Hugo Boss even designed the SS uniforms. That's a big factor, in my opinion, as to why they sell so well in this hobby. I don't believe it has anything to do with neo-nazis. On the military side, they had some unique and advanced designs. Jets, rockets, monster tanks and guns.

Germans, Japs and Russians....yes Russians. DIslike them all too and no apologies needed Rob

Like ive said to Rob before what looks better a TIGER or a Churchill.........:D

Guys,a retraction alert!.I may have, in an earlier post, given the impression that my good friend Lord Bob of Rebshire may have had a go at me when I posted my anti Nazi thoughts, this is most certainly untrue. He has never done any such thing,I was reffering to my dispatches threads that he is not over keen on,he is firmly in the anti Nazi dept and a fine upstanding gent to boot!.

Apologies to my Southern friend.

Rob

Rob dont worry, my grandad still hasnt forgiven them for bombing our chippy

Having been born just prior to the war my earliest memories are of the Kreigsmarine trying to deprive me of food, the Wehrmacht doing their best to kill my relatives and the Luftwaffe attempting to drop assorted ironmongery on my head. As kids my contemporaries and I thoroughly understood the concept of total war, we were at war with Germany therefore anything or anyone German was the enemy and should be destroyed. There is no hatred like that of a small child whose view of the world is strictly black and white. Age and peace brings tolerance, and individual Germans are assessed on their merits or discrepencies the same as anyone else, but I must confess to a lingering suspicion of the German Nation State, the feeling that there might still be a spark burning when they become a little over assertive in the affairs of Europe.
