I got this figure from a shop in Madrid. They were closed for the afternoon siesta but I persuaded them to open the shop. The shop is mainly tanks and aircraft but they had a few sets of Andrea (only) figures.

The figure is very well sculpted and cast. I attached the parts with epoxy resin and sprayed with a primer. The figure was then attached to a base with some roots. I only intend to add a great helm to this figure as a minor conversion.

Hi Rick,

A great casting, albeit the figure is on the small side, when compared to other figure kits.

Here's the figure with the face painted. I'll do some touchups later.

I decided to change my knight into a brethren of the Order of Santiago. He would be in a red surcoat and the helmet would be white with a red cross.

Seeing as how the figure looked rather forlorn on his base, I decided to add a horse into the scene.

The horse was from F Eisenbach and the head was snipped off and substituted with a chamfron head from an EMI spare.

The specific reference for this figure was taken from the Cantigas Santa Maria, a medieval illustrated manuscript.

This shows a knight of the order of Santiago in a red surcoat with round white helmet and a red cross. He is mounted on a horse with a red chamfron and front white housings and red cross. Next to him is another knight in a great helm. All the red crosses are charged with white cockleshells.

The Order of Santiago was one of 4 Spanish religious orders and was confined to fighting against the Moors in Spain.

Here is the horse with copper skirts added and the neck sculpted. I built up the back of the horse to take the saddle.

I built a saddle for the horse. The base was further modified to create a larger groundwork to accommodate the steed and knight.

I added foliage to the base. Some dried seaweed for the grass flocks, dried ferns and modelling foliage for the leaves.

I started to paint the horse.

The heraldric cross is slowly being painted.

The arms of the cross are thickened. Notice that I have filed off part of the sculpted horse face mask to resculpt it.

I resculpted the horse mask and painted over it.

Reshaped the saddle.

Finally I attached the saddle to the horse, added straps and stirrups. The horse was painted.

Finally got back to this figure. Reshaped the saddle many times to get it right. I added a blanket for the seat, reasoning that any seasoned veteran would want a comfortable seat. The outline of the crosses have been corrected and final painting is underway.

Coming back to this piece, I've added more putty to resculpt the neck covering.

ptg the red crosses. A friend wants this piece and has asked me to put it on a simpler base.
So I am glueing two pieces of basswood crossgrained for strength.
