Andrea Romans (1 Viewer)

I found this Andrea Standard bearer in a heap literally. Well, that's me... I decided that it was still in good condition and mounted it to a base. The shield was taken from Pegaso.

This standard bearer belongs to the first generation of Andrea figures and lacks the sophistication of the latest Andrea figures. This can be seen in the open palm of the right hand which is not grasping the standard.

There is no undercut. The arms and legs are glued onto the main torso. The standard with rod was cast in one piece and was crooked.
Hence I substituted the rod with a straight metal wire and carefully removed all the decorations and fitted them to the metal wire.

I manipulated the right hand into another position and added groundwork to the figure. The shield is temporarily propped up but will be removed for painting.

Starting to paint the figure with black shadows. I read up on the Signifiers and generally, their shields were small round affairs and flat. Hence, I looked more carefully in my hoard and found the original Andrea flat oval shield which I will be using.

finalising the shield. More typically, signifiers used small round shields as depicted on Trajan's column but Andrea Miniatures has chosen to represent a specific signifier who was depicted with a large oval shield.

Here is the Andrea standard bearer finished and with minimal groundwork.
