Hi Guys,

As you know many of us in Toy Soldier World are planning our WW1 purchases for the coming year. So my question is, What will Andy go for in this here particular conflict??? Many options on the dio table as it were. Could be early War Brits at Mons (yes please:salute:::salute::) or Aussies/Brits at Gallipoli??? Maybe French on the Marne??. Not sure if we will see big artillery pieces but maybe some of the smaller field guns like the 13 pounder, 18 Pounder , French 75mm etc.

My next question is , I wonder if these will be prior to or in August when the four year Centenary begins in earnest. I simply cannot wait to see where K&C will go first in this War. Any tiny clues Andy???:wink2:^&grin:salute::

Four years of releases ahead my friends:smile2::smile2:

I should not bother with these threads because I always get it wrong!

I think planes and tanks are off the table so I am going with guns as you have suggested and figures that go beyond the basic fighting poses, whether that mean soldiers at rest, or perhaps a range linked to a big event such as Verdun. I also feel that there will be one 'iconic piece' that attracts those not normally into the Great War; the 'Napoleon's Tent' of the 14 - 18 war. Perhaps the assassination? Royal family? King on the Western Front? Edith Cavell?

Good morning my friend!:salute::

What excellent ideas, love the assassination suggestion, what a good set that would be to start the anniversary^&cool. Would be a bit like the Heydrich set, only not such a well deserved assassination of such a low life specimen of humanity. The King on the Western Front would also be welcome indeed. French figures at Verdun would also be something well worth having too. The recent excellent German medical sets would also be a theme I'd like to see for WW1, my word there are so many possibilities {eek3}

How about a recruitment center scene!^&cool^&cool^&cool

I wouldn't expect Andy to want to give any details away but hopefully he may give us a clue as to when we may expect some releases. This will give me time to cut back on the food budget, not pay the gas bill, sell the furniture etc, you know stop dealing with the frivolities and save for the serious stuff:salute::

All of the above I hope and more, this is the prefect opportunity to do some truelly epic things to mark the one hundred years of each year of the Great War....four years! I do want to see some big artillery items after all it was an artillery war, these can be limited editions to mark the anniversaries, I don't know the number to be profitable but I believe they will sell no drama hey you would sell a dozen here in Brisbane alone. What is really needed is trucks, staff cars, horse drawn field wagons/guns and behind the lines type figures eg: shaving, playing cards, resting and brewing up, eating rations the type of things soldiers do 90 per cent of the time. Now is the time. As an Australian I want to see figures of the A.I.F on the Western Front, a Monash figure would be brilliant, Gallipoli would nice to but the real story was in France. While working on our Great War dio we talked about how nice it would be to have more figures produced that had diorama use in mind, action figures are great but armies spend most time out of action, I am not asking for less action but more inaction...:wink2:

Do agree Wayne. It's an exciting time to be a WW1 enthusiast right now as the world prepares to pause and remember. Can't wait to see which direction K&C move in and when we may start to see releases.

A series of WW1 personalities including Monash as you say, Haig ,Lloyd George , Pershing, Joffre etc would all be welcome.

Bring it on my friend!:smile2:

Jack, you mean King and Queen on the Western Front. Our King Albert 1st was on the front line but also our Queen, Queen Elisabeth served as a nurse in the military hospital of De Panne

Guy,

I think Jack meant King George V of Britain visiting his troops mate.

I'd like to see any of the suggestions mentioned. The assassination would be a great place to start. The big conundrum is that WW1 on the Western Front was primarily a war of artillery. How to represent WW1 without the big guns? As mentioned by Rob, the various field artillery such as the 75mm, 77mm, or 13 pounders are certainly doable, but someone needs to solve the big gun question. Big guns in action, big guns at rest, big guns being supplied, camouflaged, you name it, you can't do WW1 without the big guns. Airplanes, tanks, trucks, etc., can all be done and are being done at an excellent level, as are the various infantries, but the big guns are absent. Obviously, the cost factor to properly do large guns is going to be the driving factor for manufacturers. Can a gun be done at a cost effective level and can enough be sold to justify all that goes into making a big gun and it's various pieces (such as crew, ammo, supply)? Trophy of Wales used to do it but it wasn't cheap, even back then. So what does everyone think? Can the guns be done and would they sell? I'd certainly be in on field artillery and I certainly would be in on a German 210mm howitzer or a French 155mm. The big guns are going to be the key. -- Al

Excellent post Al. I do agree that you do really need artillery of all sizes to represent the War on the Western front as it was such a huge devastating part of that theater. I hope Andy may tell us if he feels it is feasible to produce a larger gun for the WF. I'd love to see something like a 9.2inch Howziter on the Somme in the run up to 1st July 1916.

We will await developments on the Western front!:smile2:

K & C has already done three 77mm artillery pieces for WW I, for the Germans, 1914 and 1917, and one for the Ottoman Turks. Of course, they're all retired. I have the Turkish one and I just recently received the 1914 German version (at original price) and they're both very nice. If anybody want to know where I got it, please pm me.

I think an assassination set would be an unusual set and probably do well.

Although we're unlikely to see them, what about Russian and Austro-Hungarian troops. I think the nub is that most are principally interested in the Western Front and so I don't know that these would be big sellers, hence, unlikely to be made.

I know that Fusilier has a couple of sets of Austro Hungarian troops but no Russians, although they do have some Romanian and Italian sets, together with British, French and German.

Eastern Front is a good idea and almost untouched. I believe that Regal's Soldiers of the World offers both Russian and Austro-Hungarian troops in their catalog. Early war A-H troops would be great, especially their very colorful cavalry. -- Al

icks off

I hope Andy kicks off with Mons British. Some artillery support would be welcome say an 18 pdr. Perhaps K&C could do for that what they did for the 25pdr, and produce a crew in suitable desert uniforms to support the Australian Light Horse out in Palestine.

Some figures of these guys would also be welcome.

Rob

Yes I was but Guy is quite right to remind me that the description 'the King' can mean different things.

How about a range covering the Royal families of Europe circa 1914 - Czar, Archduke, Kings, Queens - it would be an impressive grouping! Perhaps even Winnie and David Lloyd George? The Prime Ministers of the Empire?

I meant 'my' King but your are quite right. King Albert would perhaps be an even better choice.
