Undoubtedly one of the most collected ranges in the toy soldier world. What a smart piece of marketing by WB to bring out the matte range in 2006. Those red coated Brits against the ebony Zulu warriors. You can't beat this as a display on a shelf, diorama or other form of display.

Yup , this range just powers on. Real shame that after such a promising start in in 2008/09
Conte dropped off the pace with their zulu range . Could have been a total bedrock line for them also.I
have pretty much everything in both manufacturers ranges and am putting together my large scale rorkes and isandhlwana dios for completion this year. The shade of scarlet is slightly different and I have highlighted the britains tunics so the look is more consistent. May be sacrilege to some but I'm a bit obsessive compulsive when it comes to slightly different shades of red or khaki etc. I want to mix the ranges but the core colors must be identical for me. of course if I had known back in 2009 the conte range would dry up then it's the contes tunics I would have adjusted......... Just my luck.

Yep I agree Conte good but shade of red not brilliant. Have you tried Thomas Gunn. Great additions to the red line!

Yes I mix in Thomas Gunn as well , but their red is the darkest of all , so without adjustments
I get a range from orange red conte through middle red britains to slightly darker red Thomas gunn. Anyway, they all get brought approximately in line with the paint brush when I get hold off them. Not intending to re-sell any ever , so I just do what makes me happy. Scale-wise all 3 align nicely . I did get the small collectors showcase range when it came out and these are the only ones with a scale issue.
Too big to mix - although having said that I have seen some collectors on the forum do this with judicious positioning. A 4th shade of red by the way - almost a purple red from CS.

The Rorke Drift layout is excellent, the time of the battle sure lends itself to the burnt roof hospital, but hard to justify owning two. Agree the TG and Britains combine nicely. Might consider some FL Zulu to strengthen the numbers when they are released. Thanks for sharing, sure is inspirational. Robin.

Very nice collection and display. I was going to add FL to the Conte and WB figs I have, but after seeing them in person, decided the coloring was off too much. Don't have that problem in the ACW range. Chris

You have a very large and diverse collection.Very nice .

Agreed but like yourself I don't think I could justify getting the burnt out hospital.

Impressive collection Robin! I think you have recreated the Battle of Rorke's Drift to the man.
Cheers,
Brendan

I too started my first larger dioramas using the 1879 Zulu War period. There were many sets available and then there were my memories of seeing the 1964 movie "ZULU" starring Michael Cain, etc.
