Hey, I just found another couple of Thin Red Line snaps.
Apparently, these were taken by the famous Mrs Fanny Duberley, who happened to be entertaining some Russian Colonel or something at the time Sir Colin Campbell's brave lads saw Ivan off. It's always been somewhat of a mystery how come they ended up in my Great-Great-Grandfathers possession.
Hmmm....I sniff something of a "Skeleton in the Family Closet" here....So I'll do some investigation and report back.

Harry

Why, thank you Louis. You also, are very kind.
I posted some awesome snaps in the East of India section tonight as well. But unfortunately, they're not of the Thin Red Line.

I saw the shots of the EOI and CS Samurai, and they look fantastic as well. Several years ago, there was an amazing diorama on the EOI website of the famous Ronin avenging the slaying of their master. I offered EOI quite a bit to buy the diorama and the figures that go with it, and they wouldn't sell, so I never got around to collecting their figures, but there stuff has always been fantastic.

Yeah, I know the diorama you're referring to Louis. It's brilliant.

Here's a link to it in the East of India catalogue;

Ken Clarke also had an outstanding Samurai Castle he showed me when I visited East of India HQ recently.

You'll also find it in his catalogue by clicking on the link below;

Watch this space cos I've been forming a cunning plan to replicate something similar to both dioramas - but it won't be for a few months yet.
Probably after we move house (again....aaaarrrggg...!!!).

That's strange Joe, I have the originals here with me that I found in one of my Great-Great-Grandad's old trunks containing a mass of old manuscripts and photo's. I didn't know they'd appeared in the newspapers of the day though - Well, just fancy that..??

By the way, I forgot to mention yesterday; see that guy right at the back getting ready to duck through the door and make a bolt for dear life should the Russians break through the TRL?
Well, that dapper and debonair gentleman is; Great-Great-Grandad Heid.......

Have been playing around with the layout for a new Charge of the Light Brigade diorama and reckon it'll end up looking something like this.
The fellow riding his nag in such a peculiar fashion happens to be Great-Great-Granddad Heid. He got around the battlefield quite a bit that day at Balaclava. Just like George MacDonald Fraser's eponymous hero, he was at The Thin Red Line, saw action at the Charge of the Heavy Brigade and was somewhat reluctantly involved with the Charge of the Light Brigade.
Dunno how he found the time, but GGD Heid also saved Mrs Fanny Duberly from a fate worse than death at the hands of a certain Colonel Ivan Ivargottemoff, (that's him at the back with the spyglass), an unusually heroic event which she wasn't too grateful about - apparently, but that's a story for another day.
If you've read "Flashman at the Charge", then you'll know why he can't quite risk a proper "seat" on his saddle.
Course, for strict historical accuracy, I need to find him a different head, maybe reposition the right arm a wee bit an'all.

Regards
Harry

It's 1865, North West Frontier.
Flashy, his opposite number the infamous Russian Colonel Count Ivan Ivargottemoff, both of them protected by a few of Flash Harry's Corp of Guides henchmen, watch with professional interest (and from relative safety of course) as the usual mashmash of units going into action with the pesky Afridi's. Against a backdrop wall of mountains that bear a remarkable resemblence to a badly-tiled backdrop wall of mountains.
And Mrs Fanny Duberly ain’t involved this time. Flashy and Ivan have put all that nonsense behind them.
Water under the bridge and all that.
