Gentlemen,

Do any of you own the Panzer I ausf F WS108? The reason I ask is that I recently sold one on ebay and I have come across a problem with the buyer. He received the package with the tank yesterday, and I messaged him today to ask him if he received it and to leave me feedback. Well he messaged back and said that he did indeed receive the package, but that the turret hatch had broken off. Now I pack things very well; for example, I sold a M24 Chaffee at the same time and its buyer left the following feedback: "Fast shipping. Well packaged. Just as described HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!"

So my question is, how likely is it this buyer is telling me the truth. I mean that hatch was a static hatch and it was nearly closed. So, IMO, short of prying at it with a screwdriver it should not have come off. It definitely should not have come off as well as I packed it, and the buyer even said the package itself was not damaged. ANd wouldn't you think that if you received it and unpacked it that you wouldn't wait a day before contacting me about it? Anyone ever broke one of these off by accident and could maybe shed some light on the matter? Any input is appreciated.

Did you get insurance for the item? On items over $50, I get insurance, doesn't cost too much, that way, if the idiot (if he is indeed one) tries to scam somebody, he'll be performing mail fraud, leaving you out of the process and him in legal trouble.

Sorry, I know that's "after the fact" advice and doesn't help now, but from what I've gathered, he's lying, based on the fact he said no exterior box damage occurred, combined with your statement that a screwdriver is needed to remove the piece. The only way I can see it being broke is if you put the item into a box without using any sort of cushioning, then it would bounce around inside the box.

There have been accounts before people breaking stuff on purpose, then trying to blame the seller, I'm sure those guys on here can chime in (the sellers, not the breakers :wink2:)

I don't think it would be unreasonable to ask for pics of the item and the box.

BlakeWR85, yes, thankfully I did get the insurance. Call it a hunch, but I just didn't feel comfortable not buying it for shipping an $80 item.

Here is a picture of the piece for those that may not be familiar with it:

Essentially you can tell that the hatch isn't exactly up and and exposed and prone to breakage, like say my M24 Chaffee's hatch (Which made it to it's buyer intact). The panzer I's hatch is static, not to be opened, and surrounded by the viewports on its high points. So as I said, besides taking a screwdriver and prying at it, or trying to get your fingers under it to attempting to open the immovable hatch, this thing shouldn't break. Especially if you consider the way I packed it. The amount of force it would take to break this thing off would be difficult to muster inside a box lined with large bubble wrap, on an item wrapped in small bubble wrap, and with all excess space to move around filled with cushioning material. Also the fact that the chaffee I shipped was packed in the same manner, and had a lot more exposed parts (turret hatch, large main gun barrel, hull mg etc), but still made it to its destination intact does not speak in favor of this buyer.

I requested pictures of the damage from the buyer yesterday. I have not received a response as of yet, but I will probably make my next decision as to how to proceed based on whether I receive them or not.

This kind of stuff makes me not want to sell on ebay. I think next time I'll just put them up for sale here, exclusively.

I stopped selling on Ebay due to that kind of stuff. I would always reply, "Just mail the whole thing back to me and I'll give you a complete refund". After that I never heard anymore from them. I've run into the same thing on Amazon selling dvds and such, people want you to send another copy as the first one was "damaged". Everyone is out there trying to get something for nothing these days.

It's funy you said that because I said almost the same thing and haven't heard a thing from them. I emailed/messaged them several times and got no response. What people think they can get away with on ebay...
