Any new FJ's in 2008? (1 Viewer)

Thanks Nasir, then any FJ is fine by me!

Rob

Thanks for the pictures, Nasir, very nice collection - really captures the feel of late-war German paras.

And to add my voice to the chorus, yes the above would be great to see!! Not an expert on German airborne, but Normandy-era FJ would be fairly appropriate for Monte Cassino as well, wouldn't they? Were there any major uniform or weapon distinctions between Falschirmjager on the Western and Italian Fronts?

Cheers,

Molloy.

They're fairly similar but there were some differences. You would see tan tropical uniforms and gear in use by the Italian Front paras much more so than Western front ones.

Thanks CS - that's a very good point, never really considered that. If there are distinctions too major to ignore - I wonder which type of FJ K&C would give priority to? I'm thinking Normandy - based purely on the fact that's already an established line for the company?

Cheers,

Molloy.

As that was very early war would that be much different uniforms to what they wore in Crete?

Rob

Not a significant difference visually at 1:30 scale, but by Crete there was a newer pattern smock being introduced that had a fully unzippable front. Before this they were all step-in. Part of the reason they changed it was because it was too difficult for the men to get out of it when they had to go to the washroom. That's probably why the paratrooper in set FJ006 has his legs crossed with an obvious look of "I have to pee" on his face.

Also, while K&C did not depict this, a number of paras at Crete were wearing camo smocks while in the earlier invasions of the low countries there was no camo. Also the earlier war paras did not wear helmet covers (which are found on some of K&C's FJ figs). Bottom line is, you can certainly use some of K&C's paras as Holland guys, but they lack the assault engineer equipment to be truly representative of the guys who took Eben Emael for example (they were glider paras anyway).

I would hope for Normandy but it's hard to say which way K&C might go. They did a limited run repaint of FJ006 in camo smock with tan trousers and helmet for one of the shows, perhaps indicating a preference for that theatre. Figures in that kind of uniform could also be used in North Africa and so would fit into their established AK line.

Well, here's hoping for Normandy! Some of the action involving Falschirmjager is fascinating - the fighting around Carentan by units of FRJ 6 springs immediately to mind.

I would love to see the FJ's chuting up for a jump similar to the ones from the 82d in the DD series. It would make a great paring. Also, the British PARAS could be added to this. Airborne.

That would be a neat set.

New Model army did a set of paras that had two things discussed in this thread: FG42s AND tropical uniforms. An uncommon combo but not unkown. The Gran Sasso raid paras who rescued Musolini in Italy probably looked somewhat like this (one of the first times the FG-42 was used in action).

Thanks CS.The figure above is very good and pretty mean looking!.As Molloy said he would look at home in the Bocage or Monte Cassino. It will as has been said be very interesting to see if Andy revists Crete or drops into Normandy with his next FJ release.

Rob

Spot on Rob. Those Dragon FJs are among the best figures they produced. This one really reminds me of the Monte Cassino figure "Krieger"

'Krieger'! That was it,couldn't remember his name!.Siegfried was another fave,i think he was a squad leader in Crete wasn't he.

Rob

Would love to see some North Africa FJ's or FJ's dropping in on parachutes similar to DD056.

Take Care
