Does anybody know if any TS maker has made any British troops in Malaya/Borneo in the 1960's ?

I have a collector whose Dad served there and is looking for such figures to display with some of his Dad's memorabilia.

Regards
Brett

Dorset Soldiers make a Drum & Bugle Band of the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry inMalaya in the 1950's - not sure if they were there in 1960.

Have a look at them on www. Dorsetsoldiers.com online catalogue. They are in Bands 3 - and are shorts and shirtsleeve order in jungle green. Nice looking little set - might do the trick? Twelve are shown - but you can have any number you like from Giles Browne - paint 'em yourself too - if you like. Best of luck,:D johnnybach

Johnny,
Thanks for that. Had a look at Dorset but the band not what he is looking for. However I did note they had some Moro War which was interesting.

That's okay chum - glad you found something there that was of interest. Incidentally, if you were able to supply Giles (at Dorset) with a sketch - picture - or even a description of what your friend is looking for - he might be able to make it up for you.

For a one-man enterprise - Giles has a huge range - and can make just about anything you like by mixing heads/arms/bodies - in casting form. Then if you weren't able to paint them up yourself - you have the "Master" (Obee) close enough by - well - same Country anyway - who might then be persuaded to paint them for your collector friend.

You would then have a pretty unique set - which I think would delight your collector friend's Dad.

Just a thought - might be worth an enquiry?

Hi Victor - yes thanks for reminding me about Sarum Soldiers. I have bought quite a few of Patrick's previous range before now - but some time ago, he decided to call it a day - and I believe sold off many of the items he used to do. Then, quite recently he has re-emerged with more of a "Toy Soldier" feel to his range - than some of the "Coinnoseur" figures that I felt had just got a tad too expensive for me. I must remember that for the future - 'cos I do like Toy Soldier bands a bit!

Strange with that particular band, the written description doesn't quite tally with the picture - no mention of the buglers there.

Hope you have some success Brett - johnnybach

Brett,

ASSET make some figures in the Jubilee Range which is Dominian and Colonial forces in uniforms of the 1953 Coronation.

They have marching soldiers so that could be a source to follow up?

Hi All,

FYI, I was born and grew up in Brunei (Borneo) during the time of the confrontation. When I was a little kid, members of the 22 SAS gave me a shoulder title with the words 22 SAS, I think. It's of course lost after all these years. I was also taken on a ride on a small military hovercraft moored at Muara Bay. I attach some bkgd on this unit:

Brunei at that time had one of the best Band in the region. I think it was the Police Band all dressed in white tunics with black pants and they had a magnificent bass drummer with a great cheetah skin.

Hi Guys,
Have put him on to Dorset and Asset web pages. He is not worried if marching or action.

Reason I noted Moro wars was that my wife is from the Phillipines and I had seen them before but forgotten who made them.

Regards and thanks,
Brett.
