The death penalty is too good for him. What's the device the English used to use, such as they showed in the movie Braveheart. That seems more fitting.

that was the "rack plus the tools of torture" device...

Not an attorney, but I do recall that we have a prohibition on cruel or unusual punishment so racks, anthills and public stoning are off the table

Guilty on all counts, now please let's put this POS down as soon as possible. I don't want to spend rest the of my life paying for this bodily orifice's room and board and his high paid, tax dollar funded lawyers filing appeal after appeal. Nor do I want to hear about him requesting taxpayer funded gender reassignment surgery or pay for his wedding to some 20-something goofball groupie or hear about some puff-piece editorial in the Boston Globe, NYT, or bleepin' Rolling Stone about how horribly he's being treated in jail because his prayer rug is facing in wrong direction. Put him down and put him down now!

B.

This thread probably ought to be in the Lounge, as a current events topic, instead of Movies and Media, wouldn't you all agree?

I dunno...it's a pretty big item in the media right now don't you think...

My gut feeling is with Massachusetts being an incredibly liberal state, there has to be some jurors ,who would be anti-capital punishment. I believe that a deal was struck by the jury, that it was alright to charge him guilty of any capital crime offence, because they would all agree later to life in prison without parole. Seems like a reasonable deal rather than some naive hardhead deadlocking them at the beginning of deliberations..Michael

I agree that it's a big story, and I agree with you that Tsarnaev should be put to death. But this forum is for discussions of historical or military movies:

"Forum: Movies and Media
Discuss your favorite historical or military movies here"

It's not really a current events forum. If we start blurring the lines or stretching the definitions of the various categories, it'll start getting difficult to find things.

Prost!
Brad

glad they caught them...

Islamic terrorism will never bring down democracy...

I just wish our judicial system would punish them to the max for any terroristic crimes or attempts...

we need to set some examples of what you face when you do this...

I don't mind a long time...I'm just glad the message is being sent to terrorist community...

but the jury found that death was the appropriate punishment for six of 17 capital counts...

could he possibly win an appeal...or just stall...

I am a Brazilian lawyer, and my practice is even not in criminal law here, so obviously I’m not remotely acquainted with US federal proceedings and jurisprudence, but despite a years-long appeal process is expected, IMHO the overwhelming likelihood is that he will die.
Brad, I know you can by far much better comment on the likely outcome, so what do you think my friend?
