Are Matte figures "sealed"? (1 Viewer)

I am an old miniature gamer (both old, and an old gamer). Since we always "sealed" our figures after painting with Dulcote (or similar product), I wonder if matte miniatures are sealed in any fashion. Glossy toy soldiers of course have their own protection built into the paint (glossy paint being more resistant to wear/rubbing/oils than matte), but this was not true of matte paint in the past. So: are matte figures given a protective coating or is current matte paint as resistant to wear as glossy paint?

I painted 100th of figures in the past( 70ies), first with Humbrol then rapidly changing to oils, and I never used any sealing/varnish or whatever .

There is no need to seal gloss paints like Humbrol (or oils, I suspect, although I have not extensively painted with them). Gloss has a built-in resistance. It may be that modern matte paint has improved in this area. I was just curious about long term wear on modern matte figures if they are not sealed.

Never used glossy paints but mat Humbrol

I used to paint my figures with flat enamels and I have figures from the 1970s that have not faded or flaked and are not coated. I used Testors and Tamiya. The figures are not handled much and are behind glass. I switched to acrylics, Tamiya and Poly S about 10 years ago and have not experienced any problems; these figures are also uncoated. A protective coating would be desirable if the figures are handled, as in war gaming IMO.
