Just a question for all my Treefrogger friends: Are any of you guys completists – like me?

Specifically, do any of you collectors own the entire set of 1/32 Forces of Valor armored vehicles – plus trooper sets – and plan to purchase all future releases?

‘Cause if you do, I commiserate with you. In some respects it’s no fun to be driven mad by passion, especially for the likes of incredibly cool models. But then again ...

You can say with immense satisfaction that you own an entire collection, and that’s no mean feat. Years from now, when early edition FOVs will be all but impossible to find, you’ll grin a malicious grin, lick your chops, and know deep down inside that you posses something unique, everybody else would KILL for. :D

Problem is, this collecting stuff can get outta hand in a New York second, which could spell disaster for your bank account/s. :(

Anybody else in this boat?

Treadhead,

I'm not a completist with Forces of Valor products.
I did buy up a dozen or so Shermans (FOV 81007's if memory serves me correctly), but gave them to my 6 year old to trash and mess around with. Oh well. :p

I am a completist for Airfix 1/32 though, and they had an annoying habit of changing boxes at a ridiculous rate. Pretty much there though. At least they aren't making new stuff to keep up with, and since going bust, once I've got the lot, that'll be it.

I just started with FOV. I will tell you though that trying to get them all is not something I would do just because I don't like everything. I can appreciate the challenge in it. But I have neither the room or finances for it either:(

No.....thats a scary thought!

When I first started with Lionel Trains in 1974 a lot of guys wanted 1 of

everything. Some settled on a year say 1956 and tried to get 1 of each item

from that year. I decided I would select 1 or 2 "Like New" items from each buy

I made, some where Rare, most were common all were just like you found

them when they were new.

About a dozen years later $10 items were now $100's and I had a home and

family and could no longer afford the hobby.....just like many King & Country

collectors trying to keep up today!

I read a book by a fellow that called himself "Mr Mint" an appliance salesman

that became the greatest basebale memorabilla dealer of his day. He enjoyed

being on the hunt, and finding items rather then possesing them. This gave

me the freedom to part with items and continue seeking out different elusive

little treasures.

Now believe me I know this isn't for everyone! To some its tantamount to

blasphemy......and maybe it is.....but if you are:

1. Contemplating a second Job.

2. Facing Divorce Proceedings.

3. Delivering Domino's Pizzas in the evening.

4. Borrowing Junior's College Fund.......or

5. Waiting to start Junior's College Fund till next year.....(he's only 16)

You might consider allowing your "Collections" to fund your future purchases!

You might even find your wife willing to bring you that late night "Grilled

Cheese" you didn't need when you stop complaining about the grocery bills

while showing her your latest "Treasure"

Just my thoughts

I’m trying to swallow a big lump in my throat, Wraith. A dozen Shermans? FOV 81007's you say, consigned to ignominious destruction? Ahhh, the inhumanity of it all.

Are you just starting out Treadhead? I ask that because most of us used to buy everything when we first started collecting. I think it's just a phase every collector goes thru before they decide on what theme they want to stick to.

I can't see FOV items appreciating much in value as few are made to be limited. If I was you, I'd TRY to buy the version that most appeals to YOU. This is easy with FOV models as they can vary a lot in coloration and weathering. For example I like their first "Italian" Stug, but the versions made after are crap imo.

Actually, no, OzDigger. I’m a long-time 1/72 diecast collector with prodigious collections of Corgi, Dragon, Witty, etc., aircraft models. I own most every 1/72 Dragon Armor piece, too.

Lately, though, 1/32 FOV AFVs have grabbed my interest – big time. Once I get started, it’s impossible to stop.

I'm lucky enough to be collecting FOV from the start. I usually get one of each of the new vehicles but I only buy a repaint if it appeals to me or if it comes with some good figures.

Cheers treadhead:

I believe that in some sectors of this hobby I am a completist. I collect the entire K&C Battle of the Bulge Series inclusive of the German Winter vehicles with the WS designation & the older YANKS sets. This also includes whatever older Winter WS sets I can get a hold of. As for Corgi 1:32 & 1:72 scale aircraft, I have every single de Havilland Mosquito they have produced-still waiting for them to put out a Beaufighter though! That would complete me!

Happy Hunting & Completing!
