I think that I can best clarify what I'm getting at by explaining my situation. I collect a variety of Britains, rather random in fact. That's fine, I'm happy with those. I also have collected the fingers needed for a Rorke's Drift diorama. I'm really pleased with how it has turned out but it seems to be too narrow a choice. I can still add figures and I will but there isn't anymore model building to do. When a collector tries to duplicate a real fight, at a real place then there are obvious limits. Particularly when the action was confined to limited area. I've built the hospital, mealie bags, biscuit boxes, a wagon, water cart and so on. If I had started out to do Isandlwana or a WW1 battle or a fictional Napoleonic era battle, the possibilities for model building would be virtually endless. There is more that I could do, build the storehouse, for example, but I don't have the physical space available to have both buildings in the diorama.
My plan at present is to build the storehouse and remove the hospital. That way I can focus the scene on another part of Rorke's Drift that would include the redoubt and the kraal. I'd have to re-align all of the walls but that wouldn't be a problem. Sort of two dioramas for the price of one.
Two other dioramas that really interest me are a WW! Aide Station (although possibly also limiting) and a battle scene from the War of 1812. It would be expensive to start those two but they are very tempting.
Anyone else half wishing they had started a different collection?

I am happy with the ranges I have collected but I think early on it would have helped had I acknowledged that I could not get everything. I would therefore have been more selective within the range. I would have spent the same but might have spread myself through a number of other ranges rather than, for example, having one marching figure looking quite ridiculous by himself.

Nope, I am all in WWII ETO and wouldn't change it for a second. My own favorite period in history !

I started with some KC confederates, then random figures from different periods and armies of modern history, especially ww2 germans; then I started dioramas....I am happy of my collection as it represents in quantity and quality my historic interests...If I was starting now, maybe I wouldn't have bought some single figures put on shelves, as I like now especially dioramas, big and little ones.

I'm disappointed that I bought some of K&C's USN/USMC and also SOE figures believing that the promise of an opposing force for both of these lines would be produced and introduced into the market. USN/USMC series is now retired with no promised opposition being produced and I am still waiting to see if there will be any opposing forces introduced for the Sons of Empire range.

Do I like the figures that I have? Yes, they are fantastic.

Do I feel like I have been deceived re where the series was supposed to go? Yes I do.

Had I known that there would be no opposition, I would not have bought some of the figures in the first instance. If manufacturers introduce new lines with statements about their plans for the line, they should keep in mind that some of us take them at their word. Their statements are part of the advertising pitch and help many of us to make our purchasing decisions. Don't make promises that are not going to be kept.

cheers
