"Are You Ready For Some Durbar?" (1 Viewer)

Thanks for the pictures, Pat.

I have most of the Marlborough Durbar figures, as does a friend of mine. When we put them together - WOW!! I also agree that glossy is the way to go for this series, though I will probably pick up some of the more interesting matt figures from Britains such as the beggaar and the beautiful lady with shawl.

Hello Pat,

Thanks very much for posting the images of your magnificent Delhi Durbar collection.

The gloss paint finish does very well to reflect the grandeur and splendour of the Durbar series, irrrespective of manufactuer.

Do you think that a matte paint finish would do justice to the Durbar collection?

Kind Regards, Raymond.

Hi Raymond,

Thanks for your kind comment concerning my Britains glossy Delhi Durbar collection. I am most fortunate to own the complete series.

In response to your question, no, I do not think the matte paint finish does justice to the Durbar collection. Of course, my own perceptions and collecting preferences play a role in my reaction to the matte finished Durbar figures. I shall attempt to organize and summarize my thoughts, impressions, and feelings in a separate thread devoted to a discussion of the question you raise. It may take me a several days to compose my thoughts, so keep an eye on the forum. I will be very interested in your response to my discussion of the subject.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Very nice pictures and Durbar collection. Thanks for posting them . John

Thanks for showing us your Durbar display Pat, truly a thing of beauty.

In regards to the Matte Durbar, I think it has created a lot of buzz, the Jaipur elephant is spectacular is all I have heard. I hope so as I have one preordered :)

Hi Scott,

Yes, there has been much buzz regarding the Jaipur Elephant. Much of the buzz is well deserved. There are some significant and valid reasons for the excitement. However, I have heard comments indicating some disappointment with the series and with the elephant. I shall try to be more specific in a thread devoted to a discussion and critique of the new series. I shall attempt to compose my thoughts for the thread in the next few days.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Thanks for posting the photos and for all the informations about the Delhy Dunbar,PAT!
Well.even it is very nice collection i was a little sad because i was hoping maybe this is one of the fights like ZULU but in India:D:D:D so no combats:p
And yes i must agree with Glosman,i think maybe matt will not be so much of a succes because if we talk about ceremonila i think it must be glossy(shiny) looking style, but matt is more detail, but not so shiny for the ceremonial,so maybe it will take a little "charm away" do not think so?QUOTE]

Hi Ales,

Yes, I agree.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Hi PJ,

Wow! You and your friend have most of the Marlborough Durbar figures? The Marlborough figures are most impressive, creative, and charming. The Elephants are beautiful and the Bazaar sets offer vignettes that greatly expand the possibilities for exciting dioramas. I collect the Marlborough Durbar figures and I wish I owned more of them.

If you have photographs of your Marlborough collection, I would very much enjoy viewing them.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Thanks Pat,

I shall look forward to your thought on the Matte Durbar. I always look forward to your view points on any subject and your posts are thoughtful and concise. You always look at things from more than one angle and don't seem biased on any one thing.

No pictures yet, but I'll grab some and post them. My Durbar occupies three shelves in my cabinet.

Hi Ales,

Most of the toy soldier manufacturers have focused on the 1903 Durbar because of its incredible splendor. The 1903 Durbar included three very large parades. The first parade, known as the Arrival Parade, included a total of 166 highly decorated elephants with Princes, Princesses, Maharajahs, Maharani, Warriors, and other significant personalities riding atop the elephants in impressive howdahs. The parades also included large bands, marching soldiers, government officials in coaches, etc.
And Beau Geste says they will not stop until they have made everyone in the entire Durbar:eek:! You will have to reinforce the shelves of your cabinets. :p
And now the choice of glossy, matte...or both! :D

Hi Shannon,

You frighten me with such comments! :D With the Arrival Parade having been more than six miles in length, I will need more than simple reinforced shelves in my cabinets! And,...I will need a budget than exceeds six miles!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

Pat,
It works out, methinks, to only a 3/16 shelf....mile that is:eek:
Mike

Now thats funny!

3/16 of a mile of shelving and my wife will slaughter me...
