Hi

I have nearly finished painting the new AIP set of a British gatling gun and crew. Has anyone else aquired this set and their views? It is mainly for the period Zulu War 1879 - Egyptian -Sudanese campaigns 1882-1885-ish.

You get a 5 man crew but two are firing rifles which seems a waste as I would have preferred all 5 to have been in action with regard to the gatling gun directly. They are all in shirt sleeve order.
There is another similar set with a field gun but I havent painted it just yet. The gun has the same crew poses except for 1 man being different in each set.
I will post a photo via photobucket when its fully completed etc...

Both sets are great and have filled a huge gap - but just wait until you see what else is coming soon.....

Steve Weston.

anyone fancy a guess on the new sets from AIP? ....

I think that they are well overdue in issuing British & French Waterloo 1815 infantry and other similar figures

Hi

Steve Westons site has photos of the AIP prototypes of the new sets of Zulus and British 1879 in shirt sleeves in action

Great looking figures

I dont understand the nature of AIP - so many different boxes but many gaps to fill. They have Charge of the Light Brigade Cavalry 5 boxes, but no Russian Riflemen and artillery - I suppose they will materialise at some point

Any comments?

9th you are right AIP do need to pulg some holes...there Rough Riders must be getting realy bored .
On a side note would like to se AIP do a napoleonic Russian artilery set.

How many guys would work the Gatling gun anyway? Having two guys shooting might not be a bad thing.
Maybe the gun jammed with enemy troops right on top so they grab some rifles .

Apparently, the Gatling Gun, as used by the British Army, carried two rifles affixed to the gun carriage for the close protection of the crew. I too was disappointed with the two riflemen. It would have made more sense to have them in non-firing poses to supplement gun crew of three.
