Armored Cars (1 Viewer)

But we should also remember that we on this forum make up a tiny percentage of collectors around the world, fact is you can't just repeat the same old tanks over and over.Even diehard fans of these more famous vehicles would soon be up in arms if thats all K&C produced,i want to see many and varied vehicles from WW2 and i applaud K&C for thinking outside the box and coming up with something different.

Yes i can imagine it some great Normandy dio scenes.

I like the new Panhard and its not a budget buster. I see it in my Normandy set-up. -- lancer

Thats a good point about the price ... it looks quite good value compared to recent previous releases... would have liked it also in grey (but can't complain:D there have been some really nice grey vechicle releases in the last year:cool:)

One of my favorite KC releases is the captured T34 with German markings. So I don't have anything against "captured" vehicles and it is nice to see KC do something different. It is a legitmate question, however, as to why KC would do something so obscure with the armored cars without having done some of the more standard AC's first. Not a big deal though. My bigger beef is the WWI AC which appears to be non-existent. That is a hard one to figure.

There is a healthy european market and if I'm correct a fast growing French market whom I am sure would love this piece.

Being relatively new to the hobby I thought I would look back to see what has been previously released by King and Country in regards to armored cars. Here is what I came up with (perhaps you guys can help fill any gaps)

  • FOB043 - ADGZ Armored Car
  • AK024 - Sd.Kfz 222
  • WS031 -Sd.Kfz 231
  • WS068 - Sd.Kfz 234/3 (erroneously labeled "Puma")
  • WS125 - Panhard Armored Car
  • EA010 - Dingo Scout Car
  • AN016 - Daimler Armored Car
  • DD038 - M8 Greyhound
  • DD060 - Staghound

In fairness I have to admit that some of the classics have been produced. Many appeared quite some time ago so for newer collectors like me they don't exist. In addition quality has improved as time has passed so new releases are for the most part better than older ones.

For what it's worth King and Country isn't the only company that has me scratching my head from time to time. Honour Bound's second Gold Series release "Sturmtiger" seemed like a very odd selection for their second tank in that series. I suspect it had something to do with reusing the lower chassis of the first release. With only 18 of the real vehicle ever produced it's hard to get more obscure than that. To me this would have made sense as a release later on after the Gold Series had established itself with a number of collector favorites.

especially when there are so many other options for German armour that could be made as others have suggested.....IMO

Yeah, that's my line of thinking too... captured vehicles are neat, they were certainly used by the Germans, but they should be made AFTER all the major German pieces have been done, when the well is starting to run dry for new ideas. Right now these obscure captured pieces are taking the place of much more important vehicles, which are just as good, if not better, looking. I haven't met anyone yet who thinks that Austrian armored car looks nice (though I'm sure someone on this forum will now pop up to defend it). I guess my feeling is, as costs continue to inexorably rise for these pieces, and as many of our incomes start to shrink, we are running out of time to have the more important vehicles produced at a price that is still affordable. Within a couple of years the starting price for K&C armor may be $200 at which point I for one am out, regardless of whether or not K&C suddenly starts making my favourite vehicles or not. I passed on the Figarti V2 control halftrack even though I love the vehicle, simply because the price ($230+) was unjustifiable. So IMO these captured vehicles are eating up useful production space, and we're running out of time before prices cross the tipping point and this hobby crashes like so many others before it.

Is it even legal to sell this thing in France, what with the German cross and SS markings on it? I know the store in Paris stocks King and Country but don't they have laws in France and Germany prohibiting Nazi era symbols?

CS,
I believe the laws may just apply to Nazi symbols ie: swatstika's etc., but there may be some political correctness issues.

Anything from the Nazi era with a swastika is illegal in Germany. I do not believe France has any such laws.

I know that K&C has previously done some of the more 'popular' choices but some of these were done long ago. I would hope that some of these will be redone. Maybe they do not sell well.......as the Tiger sells well so we keep getting Tigers. I like Tigers & Panthers but still need a late war Panzer IV. The Panzer IV was the backbone of the armor divisions even late in the war. Heres to hoping we get a Panzer IV and some more 'popular' armored cars.

One of the things for me about K&C is the wide range of vehicles they produce, endless Tigers and Panthers would be boring.Lets also remember compared to other tanks Tigers were quite rare.I hear the point CS is making about prices etc but i don't really think its a race to get all the famous Tanks out first. You can bet if it was done that way after a few of the less well known vehicles had been released people would still be calling for another Sherman. Also we can't impose a release procedure on any company, this would totally stifle the imagination of the company involved and probably kill their enthusiasm for the subject.Whilst we can request/suggest items the fact of the matter is K&C will release them in any order they please,we are when all is said and done customers not directors.

Good points Rob but businesses should exist primarily to please their customers, that's how they make the most money and stay in business. Otherwise Andy will be a starving artist. :)

I agree CS and we certainly don't need any more toy soldier companies going out of business do we.With NMA going to the wall and HB only making elite Tanks now, companies like K&C and Figarti have a lot on their shoulders.

I bet it would be very interesting to see the whole process of choosing a vehicle to make from start to finish. From the method of choosing the item right up to box art as it were. This might make an interesting item for the Collector magazine.I wonder if you had a complete list of armoured fighting vehicles from all nations in the field during WW2 just how many vehicles it would amount to and how many are still to be made?

Rob

Can I ask the question - WHAT HAS NOT BEEN DONE YET ?

I really would be interested in seeing and hear what everyone thinks should be produced. I think give a picture and a description and then lets discuss.

I for one would like one more WINTER TIGER SL SET to be done in the size of the Tunisian Tiger - at $259 -$289 - I think it would be a big seller. Many (including me) missed the last one - but it is smaller than the AK Kitty. :D

Anyway - I agree that there is probally alot more out there that needs to be produced.

Well Ron as well as loads of Axis armour that i'm sure many could name, sometime in the future i'd love to see some of Hobarts funnies.Flail Tanks,Bridgelaying,AVRE,Crocodiles etc.I think as HB Tanks are pretty much out of most collectors price range King and country could offer some excellant vehicles here.Who knows what the future holds for us armour fanatics?:)
