My father has started a few tanks as a break from biplanes. My mother is pleased.

We've all been there, I had "rigging issues" in my teens, feeling much better since I stopped making bi-plane models ^&grin

I was thinking about building models when I retire. However, what used to be $2 & $3 models when I was kid is now $30 & $50.{eek3}

Don't know how I missed your Dad's Stuart, Martin. Well done there!

I recall jumping back and forth among model types out of frustration. Yes, bipes made me crazy with the rigging. However, most monoplanes seemed to have fairly complex canopy frames to paint. With tanks, it was the rubber rims around the road wheels. Finally, ships had the waterlines to paint. If those darn lines weren't perfect, I felt as though I'd botched the whole job. Whereupon, it was back to monoplanes!:redface2:

If you're patient, older, buildable kits can be had on EBay for fairly reasonable prices. I agree, however, that the cost of a lot of the newer molds are all but out of control, particularly for the larger scales. That in itself would certainly discourage kids from getting involved in the hobby. It's always something!;)
