Army might destroy 4,000 vehicles (1 Viewer)

Here in the States they are surplusing them off and transferring to Homeland Security . Our local Sheriff acquired one to replace his augment his existing SWAT team armoured car. Not sure why we need 2 armoured cars in a rural county of less than 100,000 population.

I have seen some controversy over the "militarization" of our police forces. Not sure where it will fall out. And that is all I am going to say about that...

Owning armored vehicles is completely legal here, so why not ? If you can afford it and have plenty of acres to play. Probably cheaper than WW2 restored vehicles.Which, are a BLAST to drive.

The US dumped equipment at the end of WW Two.

My policeman brother got rid of the modern riot gear from his police dept. and gave me 4 of the modern kevlar helmets. The small local police force just didn't need the military style gear when their main duties are keeping the kids moving and returning old folks who have wandered away.

Recently the Boston area was criticized in some circles for accepting the military style man hunt for the Marathon Bombers. Local reaction was that these forces were the cavalry coming to the rescue.

Depends on the situation. You don't need a Humvee and helmet to gently get gramps back to the rehab center. When you are hunting "suspects" who have already shot police, I'm glad the police have armor.
