With looks of bewilderment at the ruined citiy and fear for the fate of their loved ones they left behind, the retreat into the Reich continues.

Robin picked up on the first item, great ground work to support the idea. Also like the figure selection and the looks on their faces to continue that feeling.
I have often wondered what the German troops thought as they continued to retreat back to the "Fatherland". When they left they were CONQUERS. When they returned they were the defeated. Good story, Steve.

I would guess that there ran the whole gamut of emotions, even in the minds of the most rabid Nazi's, with perhaps fear upper most of the coming victors retribution especially in the East.
