My meager Toy Soliders collection has been living as nomads around the house, no real home of their own until today. I finally bought a curio cabinet for the little guys. It will be delivered tomorrow.

42W x 14.75D x 80H s it should be big enough for awhile. Lights and mirrored back. All in all a pretty nice one, the door slides open to the side and locks.

I am pretty excited to get them in a home that is all theirs, no more cat attacks, dust, getting knocked over by mistake etc....

Of course somehow even though we went to just buy this curio we ended up with a new dinning room table and chairs, which cost more than the curio.....those wives are pretty savvy critters........

I will post some pics of the curio with my collection in it if anyone is interested....I do not have enough to even come close to filling it really....but I am working on that as well {sm4}

Hi Ruggles,

You have purchased a really nice and handsome curio! Congratulations on the acquisition. You will spend endless hours admiring your collection in it and it will be great fun.

Do not be concerned about filling it up. You will be surprised how quickly that happens. Just to be on the safe side, you might start looking for a location in your home for the second curio you will soon need! :rolleyes2::wink2:

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Hi Ruggles, I think it looks great!!! matter of fact I have the exact one!!:) I love that the door slides from one side to the other and doesn't have the handles in front to look at, plenty of room as well, congrats...Sammy

Thanks for the kind words, I am already planning shelf by shelf how I am going to set it up tomorrow :)

Ruggles, I have one quite similar to your new curio.They are one of the best ways to display and protect a collection

Took some quick pics of the curio today.

Five shelves in total.

The top shelf is mostly WWI Britain Glossy pieces with a few odds and ends from W.B., K&C and JJD.

Very nice curio and I really like the Frontier or whatever you call it set up....if you do not mind a suggestion...buy a set of kitchen scales....these scales are fairly accurate and is a far better method than guessing the weight....cheers TomB

Hi Ruggles,

You have a beautiful and impressive collection! I especially like your WWI figures, but all your figures are wonderful.

Isn't it fun to arrange the figures on those shelves? Not only do I find the activity fun, but I find it both relaxing and exciting at the same time. The act of arranging the figures allows me to hold each one, to dust it if necessary, to examine it most closely, and then to take pride in my entire collection. I know you are going to have worlds of fun with your new curio. Enjoy it to the max!

I do not know if you have considered it, but your curio probably came with five glass shelves. Assuming the shelves are adjustable, you might want to plan to add an additional shelf or two before you run out of display space in the cabinet. And, it is better and easier to do that now before you fill the existing shelves with more figures.

I am certain the store from which you purchased the cabinet can order additional shelves. However, a local glass shop can probably cut additional shelves at a cost lower than the furniture company would charge you.

At any rate, enjoy your curio and your collection. As a good friend frequently says to me, "Isn't this the greatest hobby in the world?"

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Ruggles, you can do what I did for extra space and get a 1/4 inch thick piece of plexi-glass cut and use it on the middle shelf that is supported by the wood of the cabinet itself. that will free up a glass shelf elsewhere in the curio. You will only then need 4 shelf pegs. !

that is a brilliant idea...and I can see the holes indicating your shelves are adjustable...

Home Depot sells the pegs that go into the holes and support the shelves...

also your cabinet and collection look great!

Hi Ruggles and Mike,

The shelf support pegs can be purchased from a variety of sources. I purchase mine from a local hardware store. They are very inexpensive.

However, the support pegs come in different sizes. If you decide to add additional shelves, make certain you purchase the correct size of pegs. Purchasing the correct size on your first trip to the store may save you a return trip.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

That cabinet looks great. I've been looking for another. Where did you get it? Brand, etc?

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words :)

1. I do love moving the figures around, I think in 2 days I "rearranged" the curio 4 times......it is very relaxing.

2. I already emailed the maker of the curio about buying more shelves but your ideal about a glass shop is great, never thought of that. I will go that route for sure if I can not buy some from the original maker. It has 5 shelves now but with the height of the figures it will take two more shelves easily.

Thanks!

Now that is some good ole Texas ingenuity! I love that ideal {sm4}

Howard Miller / Dublin Model of Curio

Bought it at Gallery Furniture in Houston. Here is the link to that product page at Gallery.

And the link to the product page at the makers webpage:

I paid $899, not sure if that was a good price or not.

Thanks.

Good point, I will take one with me for reference. Thanks.

Thanks for the compliment.

So when I was done setting it up the wife looked at it and said "Is that all the baby soldiers you have? It looks so empty...."

Now I take that as permission to buy more soldiers........I did not ask her if that is what she meant but hey she said it looked empty right?............Haaaaa sweet victory!!!!

Now if I can get her to stop calling them "baby soldiers" and saying how "cute" they are......{sm4}

Here you go Ruggles, look familiar??:):) I also love this curio, the 3 way lighting, the color of it, and plenty of room as you mentioned, i'm getting close to finishing her off and moving on to Curio 2, maybe one day I'll have a display like Wadepat:)...Sammy

I'd rather the baby soldiers moniker....in my house, they are "your dolls"! haha
(as in, are you playing with your dolls again?)
